Any Canadians shopping at O'Reilly's ?

I'm wanting to buy a voltage regulator for my '48 Chrysler Windsor.  AB wants $135 US.  O'Reilly wants $77 US.   AB is on the other side of the continent.  O'Reilly is just across the pond from me.  

I'm wondering if any Canadians have bought from them.  Some companies south of the border won't ship to Canada so you have to have a US broker, which I have access to, but it's another additional expense and a bit of leg work.  Some companies only use PayPal for international sales.  Does anybody know what O'Reilly's policy is for us Canadians?

Try Minaker's or Pre Sixties Vintage Auto Supply. NOS @ Canadian prices. No repoop schwag parts from these vendors! They are both located in Ontario and have webpages. Hope this helps. M

Thanks for the links.  I didn't see anything relevant at Minaker's.  Pre Sixties had one for my make and year, but it's only a 2 terminal regulator and I need the 3 terminal type.  But thanks anyways.

I cant say about shipping to Canada, but I know that O'Reilly and Advance auto both are big on online coupons. Usually a web search will turn up 10-20% off, and free shipping (i assume to USA)

Minakers is pretty much a time capsule and has been in the auto parts business since 1925. You won't see much on any website but they do have lots of pretty cool NOS parts for all makes with MOPAR well represented. They can be reached at 613-476-4547. You are best to call and state what you need because they have a huge inventory of NOS and good used parts for early cars and it takes a couple of days to locate them sometimes in stock that their grandfather ordered & stored away for decades. Their prices are more than fair and I usually tack on extra $$ due to the quality of the parts. M

Their "fine print" says they only ship to US.  from the .com site.  But maybe individual stores might ship here if I phone them.

I have been buying parts from Rock Auto. 2 day Fedex shipping to Canada, and is very reasonable depending on size and weight.

 

They have your regulator $82 US you can also purchase in Canadian funds. You pay the GST so there are no broker fees.

I actually do have an account with Rockauto, but the other thing I'm looking for is the odd ball thermostat, plus the round gasket that goes on the top of it.  I can easily make the bottom gasket, but the top gasket might be a little tricky to make, since I don't have an old one as a sample.  It's difficult to know how critical the id. measurement on that one is.  The od. can be assessed by the step down in the casting where it sits.  I'm pretty sure I don't have a holepunch that big so I'd have to cut it freehand.   

Rockauto don't show a listing for the thermostat & round top gasket.  O'Rielly's show a picture of a thermostat, but it's the conventional size and shaped one, so I'd probably have to call them to be sure it is the correct thermostat. 

 

But thanks for reminding me about Rockauto.  I might have to get stuff shipped from Rockauto and AB. The savings of the regulator from Rockauto, will at least cover my extra shipping expenses of two suppliers.  I also want an oil pan gasket set, and probably a spare flasher, and maybe a spare horn relay, etc. etc.

What material is this particular gasket made of (the top one)?  I haven't had it done yet, but I talked with a local shop that does laser cutting of badges and plastic name plates.  I used a 2D CAD program to draw out the gasket for the speedometer cluster.  (First step will be a test cutting, to see if the gasket can be laser cut w/o it catching fire....)

Not totally familiar with the big sixes, do they have share thermostats with their little brothers?

If so, the unique t-stat is a brass adapter, 54mm standard t-stat, and a 1/4" thick rubber ring. 

 

Rock auto lists these for the 265. May of their listings for older stuff are incomplete, so a different model or year will have more parts available. 

 

For my Plymouth, I bought 11 thermostats total from O'Reilly, autozone, advance, and napa. All had a defective brass adapter that would not fit in housing, and were missing their O ring... I bought a NOS NAPA of the same part number, and it fit fine, and had all its parts. So watch out.

The thermostat is going to look like this (see illustration) in the 251 engine for 1946-1948 Chrysler, according to my parts catalog.  At least that's what I'm lead to believe.  I don't really want to take the one out of my '48 Windsor, just to check to see if it matches the '46.  The shape and size of the housing looks to be the same for my '46 251 and my '48 251.  With the exception of the redneck add on.  The thermostat is huge compared to the more modern style.

The old style as pictured in your manual is only available NOS.

The ones with the brass adapter from rock auto are the correct replacement, as long as you get a good one with all the parts
