Oil pan Gasjet replacement/Main cap seals

Pulled the oil pan off Jacquiline.  

 

The rear gasket is about 30% missing.   Not leaking,  Not Ragged.  GONE.

 

Got a new oil pan gasket. In the kit there where a pair of 3" o rings and the following instructions.

 

"Use the O-ring supplied to fabricate new front main cap seals

 

Cut 2 sections of the o-ring approximately 1.125 inches in length and lay in the cap groove."

 

some one with experience educate me.  are the end cap seals I am fabricating really only an inch long?

 

I am assuming the cap groove is on the cap and not part of the oil pan.

Sorry, just realized I misread your request. Here is a picture of the rubber seals on the front retainer.
