Tired iron Posted May 9, 2022 Report Posted May 9, 2022 Hey gang, My 1950 Meadowbrook has a fluid drive and the transmission is shot (as I lamented about earlier this spring). Now I've got a good tranny but its for a standard clutch. How difficult would it be for me to get a regular flywheel and bellhousing? I am assuming that I will need a thinner bellhouse...right? Thanks. ~martin Quote

Is there more to it than a new flywheel, clutch, bell housing and lengthen the driveshaft? Probably have to fiddle with the clutch linkage and, wow, come to think of it the shifter linkage...hmmnn. I guess I'm answering my own question. 1 Quote
Doug&Deb Posted May 9, 2022 Report Posted May 9, 2022 Where are you located. I have a trans out of a 47 Dodge. I have no idea of the condition. I pulled it from a parts car about 10 years ago. I’m in southwest Pa. Send me a PM Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 9, 2022 Report Posted May 9, 2022 Usually those three speed transmissions are pretty trouble free. I used to have several saved for me or others... I disn't ever need one nor did local others. I ended up scrapping them sadly. Quote
Tired iron Posted May 10, 2022 Author Report Posted May 10, 2022 Thanks, guys, for the transmission offers, but i have a great tranny now with over drive as a bonus! Its just that this new transmission is set up for a regular clutch and my car is fluid drive. Now that I'm realizing how much work it would be to convert my fluid drive set up to reg clutch, I'll keep things fluid drive. Ill be able to use the good new tranny by swapping input shafts. I'm in Washington state, by the way. Quote
DJ194950 Posted May 10, 2022 Report Posted May 10, 2022 Might checks with these guys for parts to changeover the imputs. There was a forum member here that did that some years back and I Believe he got parts from this place- https://www.nwtparts.com/ Just a thought for [possible source.? DJ Quote
Tired iron Posted May 12, 2022 Author Report Posted May 12, 2022 Hey thanks for the tip. They're an interesting company and I did an inquiry. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 12, 2022 Report Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) As long as your OD transmission does not use pin type syncro's input shaft part #957859 is what you need. Get your money out though because of online pricing. A used trans might be cheaper if local....if cost is an issue. George Asche another source. Edited May 12, 2022 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
Tired iron Posted May 17, 2022 Author Report Posted May 17, 2022 I got lucky on ebay and just got a NOS input shaft, fluid drive length, for 74 bucks! 2 Quote
