Mechanical fuel pump, twin carbs...is there any reason to need a fuel regulator?

I'm in the process of working through a new dual carb set-up and, since I am planning out the whole fuel path past the mechanical pump, I am asking myself  if there is any real need to consider including a "no return line" low pressure fuel regulator. On one hand I am thinking "the single never had a problem handling the fuel pressure provided by this pump, why would 2 Carters?"  I just thought that if I am going to complete this path, do it all now.

Thanks for any thoughts you all might have.

I've got a dual carb setup with no pressure regulator and have had no issues at all. Here's a pic20200908_104626.jpeg.e18364af58923784c5441b2e10e0570e.jpeg

Fuel pressure regulators were all the rage years ago.

The idea being that if you wound the engine up in racing the pump could overwhelm the floats.

What the racers figured out was that if the carburetors were in good condition and they were jetted right you didn't need a regulator.

In fact the regulators proved to be the source of more trouble.

So the "Keep it simple" principle wins again.

It's not too hard to put a gauge on the fuel line to see what the pressure is at high rpm.

You'd like to see about 2-3 lbs.

I worry more about fuel starvation than over pressure and that was the main reason the racers got rid of their regulators.

Factory twin Carter B&B carbs installed on the bigger Dodge trucks never needed a pressure regulator either..some even had a higher volume fuel pump too.
