Crazyred Posted January 31, 2022 Report Posted January 31, 2022 I'm getting everything ready to reinstall the transmission and can't figure out the reason for this guide pin. The manual says it's a clutch release assembly guide pin. The thing is, the pin does not touch the assembly or bearing. I am waiting for the pull back spring to arrive but it will be attached to the side of this pin. Does anyone know what this actually guides? Quote
Sniper Posted January 31, 2022 Report Posted January 31, 2022 Probably supposed to work with something else to keep the release bearing from spinning Quote
TodFitch Posted January 31, 2022 Report Posted January 31, 2022 On my 1933 (and I think the 34 is the same) there is a casting/forging that the release bearing is pressed on to. That fitting has a couple of ears that the release shaft presses against to actuate the clutch and it has a small hole that guides it along that pictured rod. And, finally, there is a hole on the fitting for a return spring to pull the release bearing away from the pressure plate fingers. It looks like you have an entirely different fitting than the one in my '33 (and I assume is needed for the '34). Unfortunately I don't have a spare so I can't send a photo of what is should look like. 1 Quote
Crazyred Posted February 1, 2022 Author Report Posted February 1, 2022 Hmmm, now I'm wondering if that's why the spring was not on this assembly. @TodFitch your site shows part number 620658 for the assembly. A web search did not pull up any results or pictures for me. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of this part? Quote
Crazyred Posted February 8, 2022 Author Report Posted February 8, 2022 So the spring arrived and installed it on the sleeve and it's not going to work with this configuration. As i figured the spring pulls twists the assembly to one side and taking it out of alignment. So the hunt is on for the correct assembly. If i can't find one then i will have to figure out how to attach the spring to the guide bolt to pull straight back. Anyone have a spare assembly for this guide pin set up or know where i could find one? Quote

Sniper Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 FWIW, I think the part number is 602218 for the sleeve https://www.ply33.com/Parts/group6 Quote
Crazyred Posted February 9, 2022 Author Report Posted February 9, 2022 @Sniper thanks for that link now I have an idea of what that looks like. I have been searching that same part number from Tod's site with no luck or the search bots are blocking the good results. @TodFitchthanks for confirming the identification of what the part looks like. I had no idea as none of my service books had any close up drawings of it. The link article, someone had mentioned that it looks like a ford part as well. Might go down that rabbit hole to see it anything turns up. Also there is a part number of 601303 embossed in the sleeve. I'll give that a search as well. Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 I went into my 1929-39 Plymouth master Parts manual went to section group 6-e clutch release bearing sleeve and guide. The Feral Clutch release bearing is a 909 I did some searching on ebay for 32-34 Plymouth clutch and there are couple of sellers that have the automatic control units.
