47 dodge 1.5 ton Posted January 10, 2022 Report Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) Who sells the best quality replacement fuel tanks? My tank has been re-lined and I keep getting “red” gas that gums up after setting. Edited January 10, 2022 by 47 dodge 1.5 ton Quote
LMBoise Posted January 10, 2022 Report Posted January 10, 2022 Tanks Inc. sells a nice replacement. I just put one in my ‘48B1B. I ended up getting it off EBay slightly cheaper. For the ‘48 a slight modification was needed but I do not think that is required for your ‘47. 1 Quote
Los_Control Posted January 10, 2022 Report Posted January 10, 2022 As I understand it, The "TANKS" fuel tank for the earlier models like 1947 fit well and they used the same tank for the 1948-1950 models. The only real difference was the length. I will say this for 1/2 ton trucks. The tank mounts to the front cross member on the front on both series 47 & earlier as well as 48-50. It was in 1948 Dodge moved the rear cross member further back on the 1/2 ton trucks. So the rear mount got moved. So 1/2 ton trucks will need to make a mount for the rear tank to sit on. .... If you buy a fuel tank from "TANKS" But if you have a 3/4 ton or larger truck with a longer wheel base, Dodge moved the rear cross member back already and made a factory mount riveted to the frame for the fuel tank. Just saying that @47 dodge 1.5 ton would already have the factory rear mount. I imagine they would need to grind the rivets off then move it forward 2" to fit the new tank. If it was a 1948 1.5 ton. Same time the fuel tank "TANKS" sell, were designed for the earlier 47 trucks .... good chance it will bolt right in with no mods .... was only the newer 48-50 1/2 tons that needed to make the mods for the rear bracket. I bought my gas tank from "TANKS" I thought they were very easy to call up and ask questions. Price was reasonable and good service, fast delivery. Quote
47 dodge 1.5 ton Posted January 11, 2022 Author Report Posted January 11, 2022 Thanks to both reply’s. Yes, think this is the easy one to replace. Cost will be made up in the carb rebuild kits. I have already had the tank off once and tried to flush. If these new tanks are made well, I would not recommend fooling around with the old tanks. Thanks again, Kevin Quote
Splitpi Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 I might be late to this. But for my 1940 Plymouth, I bought a replacement from Tanks, Inc. Nearly identical fit, just a slight angle difference on the filler neck from the original tank. https://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=349/category_id=68/mode=prod/prd349.htm Quote
47 dodge 1.5 ton Posted February 2, 2022 Author Report Posted February 2, 2022 I bought one manufactured by Tanks, looks great. I have not installed yet though. All measurements and holes appear to match the original, just with quality paint on the outside. I just need to remove the center driveshaft again for installation. Quote
