Frank Gooz Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 I have yet to disassemble a Mopar flathead six that had any head bolt washers. Have any of you added washers when reinstalling you head? I know anyone with an aluminum head will have used washers. Thank you Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) Only used washer with studs and nuts. Though don't think it's a bad idea with replacement modern bolts.. Edited December 27, 2021 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) I think with some of the bolts being used from brand x to the flathead there is a slight difference is length where you are just under length to begin with...add a washer here and you lessening your bite further.... Tired iron Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 My replacement head bolts where just a little long, so I used washers (didn't have them on originally). Quote

thebeebe5 Posted January 1, 2022 Report Posted January 1, 2022 IIRC Plymouth used studs without washers until 1938-1939 or so. Saved a couple of pennies per car that way. My ‘37 didn’t have them originally and it came up in a discussion thread here when I rebuild my engine a couple of years ago. Quote
