Thought I’d fire out a thread on a job I have been putting off on my newly acquired 1940 half ton.

im going to need to remove the windshield and as most are , I have a bit of rot in the lower passenger side corner so I will need to do a bit of metal fab there before I replace the glass.

The crank out mechanism is seized that has the windshield strap going through it; I’ve been hitting the mech with PB blaster but so far it’s still stuck.

Looking for hints or tips on how to go about getting the windshield out of the truck.

It's very difficult if you can't get that crank to move. There are hinges at the top that need to be unbolted from behind the wiper covers. Then there are 2 screws at the center bottom that hold the opener to the frame. Those are the tricky ones.

My crank had seized, but it was the pin holding the crank teeth had come out and the gear was jammed, so you might want to check that. 2 people might be able to detach upper mounts allowing better angle for the lower screws on the crank band.

I was able to put some pressure on the windshield enough while turning crank. Mine had a loose worm gear and rocking back and forth was enough to get out for replacement. I saved the old one but replaced with the billet aluminum one that DCM carries(better design IMO). I believe you will need to get that windshield out on an angle for removal.

So the windshield is starting to slowly loosen up a bit at a time.

There is no paint left on my windshield frame; I’m curious, was there frame painted body colour, or black?
