Looks good......just a question tho'.........on just about every aluminium radiator installation I've seen the radiator is never painted black............is there a reason for the non painting?.......I have a modified copper/brass Oz GM Commodore radiator in my 40 Dodge, made up by the local radiator shop 20 yrs ago, painted black and working fine..........anyway as mentioned I am curious why the radiator was not painted?........regards, andyd

i was told the paint acts like a blanket lowing the efficiency. I painted the top tank, only, black to make the aluminium less obvious. to the untrained eye most do not know it is not original.

I know this will create a discussion as most original radiators were painted.

I've seen a couple painted. I've heard painting aluminum reduces its ability to dissipate heat but I'm willing to bet it's not even measurable unless one puts 2mm thickness of paint on one. I bet a rattle can paint job wouldn't effect heat dispassion enough to matter. One would need to scuff up the aluminum tanks to give the paint something to bite onto.

They make a paint for radiators.  Eastwoood sells some, others probably do too.  Doesn't interfere with heat transfer.

Write up about their radiator paint

Ok, I went and dug thru my parts manual.  There is one part number, 947450, for the radiator used in 1942-1948 Plymouths.  Dodge uses a different part number.  Can't say what different though.

One on Ebay right now

Not sure why you picked my posted to quote.  I can already tell you the ebay listing is at the least not accurate.  Factory parts book lists 42-48 Plymouth's use the same radiator.  Your listing makes no mention of the 46, which is what the OP has.  Your listing includes the 49 Plymouth and that is incorrect.  49's and 50's use the same part number, which is different than the 42-48 number.  You might be able to make that radiator work in a 49 (and a 50) but it's not a direct replacement, despite the claim in the specs.

Just because something is listed on Ebay doesn't make it a fact.  That is where going into the factory parts books helps.

Sorry, wasn't trying to show an exact part or undermine what you were saying. Just that there are new ones out there probably better than used ones.

Might the ebay post could be referencing the "first series" 49 Plymouths?

You could be right, but they sure dont say that.  I suppose had they bothered to put up dimensions of what they are selling it might help sort out things.

Sometimes I've had to write the seller for more info.   They respond usually within a day or two. It being Christmas don't know.
