I’m looking at putting a 318 with the a body driver manifold and a auto trans into my 51 Cambridge. Seems motor measures about an inch wider than what the inner fenders measure. Has anyone done this swap and have to modify the inner fenders?  Thanks

Get the motor/tranny in where you need them to be then go from there. Do you have a poly motor? I find it hard to believe an LA motor is wider than the inner fenders. I'm in the middle of mocking up a Desoto hemi in my 49. The front end is off though. I will have to modify or remake the inner fenders and other parts, just part of a custom build. Bottom line is if you are swapping parts, the job might not be just a bolt in deal. That's the fun of building a custom. Anybody can put a store bought kit together.

Motor and trans came out of a mid to late 70s Plymouth Fargo pickup  from outside manifold to outside manifold it measures 25” and between my inner fenders it’s 24”. I will see about cutting on the inner fenders some. Thanks

I have a 51 Cambridge as well and I cannot imagine where you are measuring to get 24".

What does yours measure. I don’t have my car with me it’s in my buddies shop and he said it was 24”. Idk for sure tho

You need to bolt the motor and tranny together and stab it in. You might find by raising, lowering,  tilting, whatever might get you the clearance you need. Get it bolted up and fit everything around the engine. Sometimes trying to make your engine and transmission fit within what room you have isn't going to happen. Really just a little head scratching and some basic fab.

You may need to pull the front clip off the car if you haven't already. You prolly gonna have to anyway to fit in motor mounts. I was able to get mine off as all 'one unit'.
