Greg,

Thank you for the lead. I am thinking of putting an overdrive in my 48 Desoto. But the parts list will may get long. Bell housing drive shaft and?

What is in your car now for trans?  Three speed or semi auto??  Might be easier to get the gear vendors style can up a mount, shorten the drive shaft. If it's a three speed, you might need to swap the input shaft.  The r 10 unit is the same length as the three speed.  At least it was for my Plymouth. 54 0d bolted right to 56 engine in my 46 coupe.

Greg,

I read sometime back about flywheel and starter the engagement. My car is a semi auto/tip toe shift i think it was called in 48.

I will start a list and see if it make sense to anyone else.

I don't think the tip toe and the overdrive are bolt on comparable. When I got mine, I aquired 2, one from a54 and the other from a 56.  They provided the basis for a 2 to make one deal using the 54 case and the 56 internal bits. But both were three speed manuals. I don't recall any one actually detailing the conversion using the m 6 as the base. Which is why I mentioned the gear vendors of.  The GV is basically a Laycock de Normanville like was used by Jaguar, Triumph, Austin Healy, and Volvo.  Which is and add-on as apposed to being part of the transmission assembly.

I think i would have to start with a truck flywheel and bellhousing. For my starter engagement . then the location of the bellhousing mount may be the same as fluid drive bellhousing. ( could i find all the parts to plug and play ? )

Not sure about that 48 trans but Dad and I did a 51 dodge with the gyromatic. The overdrive was about 1/2" different than the gyro so no driveshaft mods were needed. The only real mod was an extension to the parking break cable.
