MoparTiger Posted September 10, 2020 Report Posted September 10, 2020 Hello everyone. I'm seeking suggestions or reference material either written or youtube about how to properly align the gaps on a car like my 1952 Plymouth 2 door Cranbrook. I have the publication "Plymouth Service Manual 1946 thru 1954" and door alignment scenarios are described in section 26 starting on page 259, but none seem to describe the problems my car has. On my Plymouth, the gaps all seem appropriate at the interface of the front of the doors with the rear of the fenders, at the interface of the top of the doors with the body, and at the top half rear interface of the doors with the body. When considering the pivot around the axis of the striker plate, the top half of the rear of the doors does not appear to be as far inward as the bottom half of the rear of the doors are outward. Also the interface of the top front of the doors appears to be a very close fit relative to the visor brackets, and no current binding is present at any location of the doors. I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 10, 2020 Report Posted September 10, 2020 this issue may have to be addressed in a different manner.....first I would have to ask if you have new door seals on the body....if so are they soft or hard. Many repopper have too hard a rubber here and will cause for the doors to strain a bit and stick out proud. You may have to remove this to adjust the door gaps proper. If the removal of the rubber relaxes the fit...you have your answer. Alignment will not be much bother if the rubber is first off the car....If your rubber is old and compressed from long term fit...odds are you have mechanical nut/bolt issues only. Quote
MoparTiger Posted September 10, 2020 Author Report Posted September 10, 2020 That's a very good point. I had not even thought about those door seals. Thanks very much - I will check that out. Quote
Sniper Posted September 10, 2020 Report Posted September 10, 2020 One other thing to look at is the hinges, as they wear the door alignment can drift. If they are sloppy you really need to address that first. Quote
