50Dodge Posted January 11, 2020 Report Posted January 11, 2020 50 Coronet that I will he lowering 2 in. Stock replacement calls for Monroe 31000 or any brand similar. My question is do I need to find a 2in “shorter” shock, or will the 2 in drop not make a difference in shock choice? Quote
Sniper Posted January 11, 2020 Report Posted January 11, 2020 Unless you trim the bump stops the housing will hit those before the shock bottoms out. No different that filling up car with enough weight to drop the rear 2". It'll hit the stops first. So stock shocks ought to be fine. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 11, 2020 Report Posted January 11, 2020 (edited) usual methods of dropping the rear involves block and the mounting position of the leaves, shock plate and shocks are not disturbed... ADDED NOTE....I in my post above I had forgot about some of the shock mounts that is on the very perch itself as welded to the axle tube...in this set up, the shock stationary position will be moved closer to the top mount of the shock...hope I did not add some confusion with the above statement....IF you are not going Baja'ing and or evading Roscoe P. Coltrane, you should be ok...and if you used a shorter shock this would also limit the drop of the axle if you had to change a tire alongside the road... JBNeal Posted January 11, 2020 Report Posted January 11, 2020 I went through the Monroe Instruction Guide and didn't find any shocks that would be significantly shorter than the 31000... additional information - Alternatives to Monroe 31000 Quote
