vikingminer49er Posted June 7, 2020 Author Report Posted June 7, 2020 Received the enameled Dodge Brothers emblem from Karla Maxwell today. Looks to be an excellent restoration. Please contact me if you need her contact information. Thank you. 2 Quote
vikingminer49er Posted July 20, 2020 Author Report Posted July 20, 2020 Received photos from Joe Jarvis on rust removal and body work on the lower rear of the cab. Was necessary to reinforce the cab before the rusted metal was removed to maintain dimensions. If the rusty metal is cut away before reinforcement, the dimensions will change, making it difficult to get it back to shape. Maintaining the dimensions makes the doors operate properly. Quote

vikingminer49er Posted September 8, 2020 Author Report Posted September 8, 2020 August photo update Quote
vikingminer49er Posted September 8, 2020 Author Report Posted September 8, 2020 Cab is back on the frame. LOT of metal fab and replacement, all welded solid, strengthened the seat and floor a lot. welded, ground and seam sealed, then we body worked the cab and hood, is now in spray poly, kind of like a jell coat - thick primer. From here I would like to get the lower sides of the hood, then move onto the doors and front fenders, the truck will really be taking shape when we get that completed. I think you can see all the spot welds, you likely know we cannot weld a bead on sheet metal, it will just warp and distort then have to be cut out again. Hope you are happy with this step, it was a lot of work and we're relieved to have it completed. The cab is now very strong! Quote

Usually long lead time for restoration by specialists. Last year for the Dodge Brothers enamel emblem. Sent to Karla Maxwell of Maxwell Enamels, http://www.maxwellenamels.com/Home_Page.html, for restoration. Upon receipt, Karla wrote: "Your UNIQUE badge just arrived. Did not see it in the photo but your badge is the rarer USA version. It is my understanding that the USA only showed on vehicles meant for export. Those badges don't show up very often." Certainly can't explain that, since the truck was found in Colorado. Continue to remove bright shiny objects. Interesting about the USA version badge, as it turns out. I have one in my RD10. 1 Quote
vikingminer49er Posted November 7, 2020 Author Report Posted November 7, 2020 Karla Maxwell indicated she thought the were for export. Doubt the truck I bought in Greeley Colorado was from the export market. Thank you for your interest. Quote
Steve-L Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 My truck was built in LA, and lived most of its life in Calif, until I bought it. 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2020 Report Posted November 8, 2020 Obviously different trucks and trim but all my 41-47 trucks have made in usa stamped right into the stainless for the grill. Also the reproduction trim doesn't have that I'm guessing because it's not actually made in USA Quote
Steve-L Posted November 8, 2020 Report Posted November 8, 2020 Found this on epay while looking for a complete windshield regulator assembly for my 38. As my assembly doesn’t look to be repairable. Notice the cracked housing and bailing wire “fix”. First pic. these things must be made from unattainium. They want all of $500 for the complete assembly and $80ish for the ss crank out tongue. If you’re interested search for epay item 274413894324 2nd pic. 1 Quote
vikingminer49er Posted November 9, 2020 Author Report Posted November 9, 2020 Here are photos of the windshield crank mechanism I have. Need the stainless tongue piece, but the item is listed for a General Motors product. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 I believe DCM has those for the 39-47 trucks. Not sure if they interchange though 1 Quote
Steve-L Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 Yes, it’s listed for GM’s, I’d drop them a note asking for dimensions, length, width, distance between holes. I’m betting that part is more a universal part used across all manufacturers. 1 Quote
vikingminer49er Posted December 22, 2020 Author Report Posted December 22, 2020 Work has definitely been impacted by the virus this year. Received the chrome pieces from Keystone Plating in Brainerd Minnesota late in November. Keeping the pieces wrapped until they're needed. Also, finally got the fenders and running boards from the sandblaster. Some body work is required. Quote
vikingminer49er Posted December 22, 2020 Author Report Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) More fender and running board photos. Edited December 22, 2020 by vikingminer49er Quote
vikingminer49er Posted December 22, 2020 Author Report Posted December 22, 2020 Doors are in remarkably good condition, but the hinges will be rebuilt. Quote

vikingminer49er Posted December 25, 2020 Author Report Posted December 25, 2020 Here are photos of the pieces we unwrapped on Christmas Day. Of course, we didn't touch them directly, and wrapped them back up. Still have a lot of work to do before we're ready for them. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! Tom and Judy. 1 Quote
