1951fargo Posted May 9, 2019 Report Posted May 9, 2019 Hello again, My 1951 fargo project came with a carter ball and ball carb with mechanical dashpot. I have manual steering column shift transmission my question is will the carburetor function with the dashpot plunger removed? it is damaged and i have removed it entirely, my rebuild kit did not include the leather boot required to repair it. thank you. Radarsonwheels Posted May 9, 2019 Report Posted May 9, 2019 As far as I know the dashpot just helps with a slower return to idle? Mine ran fine without it but I’ll tell anybody who’ll listen that a repop weber 32/36 from the stovebolt site was one of the best upgrades I did on my 230. It started, warmed up, and ran like a new car Quote

Merle Coggins Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 Does your truck have Fluid Drive? I have that on my truck's carb too, and my truck has FD. I have mine screwed in so that it isn't functioning. I didn't like the slow return to idle. So far it hasn't caused an issue with stalling. Quote
1951fargo Posted May 10, 2019 Author Report Posted May 10, 2019 I dont know how to tell regarding fluid drive... Ive never driven the truck yet Quote
1951fargo Posted May 10, 2019 Author Report Posted May 10, 2019 Im just wanting to know if its ok to run the carb with the dashpot plunger removed completely or if i should repair it then disable it the way mentioned if necessary Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 I think there is a likelihood it will leak if it is not at least functionally repaired. You can get a FD type repair kit from Mikes that has a new plunger assembly. Jeff Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 Just remove the plunger and operating link .... good to go if that's your goal not to fix it right. It's just a fluid damper... no fluids to leak. But whats damaged on it? As mentioned parts are available. Quote
