I'm considering puting custom wheels on my P15. I know there are formulas out there for determining this, but if some has already done this I would appriciate the info. What is the maximum width of custom rims that can be put on a P15, rear and front? What would the offset be? Size of tires? The thing is that, if you get the wrong size of wheels or tires and they rub, you are stuck with wheels or tires you can't use, not to mention the expense.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, gp.

Some folks have said that you can run a 7 inch wide wheel. I'd be a bit more conservative, I have 5 inch wide, probably be comfortable with 6 inches. Back spacing is critical both front and rear. Fronts in that too wide and they will cause the tire to interfere with the tie rod end, and on the rear with the rear springs. I believe 4 inches is the absolute mak. I am running 3 1/2 on my wheel vintique steel rims. I have a set of alloy rims from a Dodge mirada or magnum. thes are 7 inchers and had 235 15 tires mounted on them. they fit on the back but without much margin, I never tried them on the front. I have seen a couple pictures of p15's running those wheels so they maybe OK. Couple folks are running the heavy duty police type wheels on their 40's and 50's mopars. So what ever that spec is will work. Your rim dealer should be able to cross reference their measurments for comparison sake.

I was running 4" back spacing chrome smoothies on my sedan. Found out the front tires were rubbing the tie rods like Greg said. The back wheels were rubbing as well. I finally went back to my original wheels and car drives much better. Got these for sale now if anyone wants to try them on theirs.

yeah Greg I did. I couldn't find any that were thin enough and the original lug bolts were not long enough for me to make them safe.

I'm running Wheel Vintique 6x15's on the front and 7x15's on the back, using BFG Radial TA's 215/60x15 frnt and 235/60x15 rear. I did have to bend my frontsteering arms to clear in front, and I am running a 1/4" spacer in the rear. I also converted to long wheel studs to eliminate concerns about wheel bolt engagement. With dropped spindles in front and a 1-1/2" lowering block in the rear, clearances are very tight, and lightly rub occasionally in right hand turns.

Marty;

I also have a light rub occasionally (left rear) on right hand turns especially if I have passangers in the back seat. But hey, thats racing!

Hola Marty

Since my spare tire is needed able to fit into the "spare tire wheel well",

the diam is kept to the original size for the Speed-O, and I pull an RV Trailer, the tire size is 215x75x15 for all five tires.

At one time I thought about going to the wire spoke rims but realized the original look attacks more positive attention.

Sounds like time for a Panhard rod....

Yeah, I'd love to have one. I read the thread a while ago about Dodge Panhard rods, I wonder if any would fit my car?

I have never had my 48 Plymouth on the lift yet so cannot tell you if the frame has the threaded inserts for mounting a Panhard rod...the bracket for the axle is not a problem to make or transfer for that matter..problem may be if it has room to clear the install.
