pflaming
I have learned the value of a quality repair/shop/owner's manual. Which manual(s) do you have and which do you recommend.
Dan Hiebert
The Bentley manuals are readily available, and the official service manuals for the air cooled VWs. That's what I have and it has paid for itself keeping my Bug on the road. Only downfall is that they don't have an index, but you can download one from "Rob & Dave's VW Pages". "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive for the Compleat Idiot", by John Muir is highly recommended, too. It's written in plain, straightforward language and is supposed to be rather entertaining. Most of the air cooled VW zealots I know have both.
Plymouthy Adams
I was given a copy of the book by John Muir and I have a few other VW books for the air cooled.....any are good to have if you have nothing at the moment. They show up fairly regular at swap meets. The John Muir book is easy to spot, brown, about 1 inch thick and is spiral wound style binding. UPDATE...just looked online, other editions of this book available and not all of them were spiral bound....seems to vary a bit in price also per offering.
