Listing to Wineward, as it were . . . . . .

My Pilothouse leans to the left. Those of you who have met me will know what I mean when I say that it may lean even further to the left when I am driving. Mebbie the last owner was a tad "chubby" as Jackie Gleason used to say.

Anyhoo, after sixty years of gravity pulling on gas tank, battery and big-butt drivers' weight, she lists to the left one and one half inches, sitting on my level garage floor. Anybody have an elegant cure for this problem? Remove one right side leaf? Surely to goodness mine is not the only one with this affliction. Yes, I realize that a pair of new rear springs would also solve this problem, but nothing is broken.

(Never noticed this problem until I finished painting the tailgate and rear bumper. Now it really sticks out like a sore thumb . . .):)

Are your shackle bushings in good shape? My truck didn't list that far, but it did straighten up noticeably when I replaced the shackles and bushings.

My 52 1 ton leans to the right! I had a parts truck that sat level so I took the front springs out when I changed the king pins. Still leans a little to the right, but not as bad. Probably about level w a full tank of gas and me in the driver's seat! My '78 half ton leans to the left. I replaced the coils in the front and still have the same problem. I give up. Mike

My 40 Plymouth was listing about that much on the drivers side rear. I installed an air shock on that side only and it's very level now.

Do you have axcess to a press? Remove spring on the high side and turn it so arch is up. Measure at centering pin. Now place in your press and make four or five small bends. Keep doing this until arch measures 1 in less. When you reinstall your truck will sit 1 in lower on that side. If you remove a leaf you dont know where you will end up. Been there done that. any questions 704 855 2727

It's the rear that is cattywampus.

You know that is a word that just is not used enough these days.........I told this young feller putting up a wall the other day that it looked a mite cattywampus, he had no idea what I was talkin about. Dutch ;)

why not find a good looking counter weight to sit next to you. If thats not enough, cooler and fishing gear in right side of bed only. still not enough trane dog only to hang out on right side of bed. got a spare? mount it on the right instead of left. etc.......

"why not find a good looking counter weight to sit next to you"

In my case it would have taken a good looking 370 pounder to even things up.

mine too, at first I just kept telling myself that it was the driveway. Do you have the underside spare tire in place? cause thats another couple of pounds, (not 370)

Wellllll, actually now that you mention spare tires, mine is also on the left side of the bed, which additionally helps that left-handed list to windward. Guess mebye I'll swap rear springs left for right, and see how the thing feels about that.

Of course, I could steel Reg's idea and install just one air shock on the low side. Any body wanna' buy one aiir shock from me? Might be just the thing to keep blue Plymouths level on those high-centered cowpath Tennessee roads. Put 'er on the ditch side to keep the keel even, as it were.

But then who do we know that drives blue Plymouths in Tennessee? AFter all, level-headed Tennessee folks generally have 'backy juice showin' on both sides, what? Say not, Mr. Don?

Grey Beard, if ya want to try using one air shock I could send ya the left over one for just the shipping. You'd have to come up with a small air line and fitting though.
