My differential is so cruded over I don't know where to start to find the ratio number. Can it be in different locations?

No plug on the end no number by the plug.

in the top picture...on the right....se the machined flat...this is the bottom, check opposite for similar flat.....clean this....normally the ratio is expressed by gear tooth count..divide the big number by the little number to get the ratio

Try looking upward? Some I found are from above  and forward of the fill plug -stamping was done by hand and not are not located in a small area -found several there  on Mopar early third members. Almost anywhere in that area as most are.

Is the truck or the Suburban? Just wondering. May make some difference?

The marking on my '53 is 3.73. The 3.91 was ginseng to me. The drums have stubs so may use those.
