Yeah, I'm with you Norm on this. I'm leaving my 55 basically stock, just skirts, lowering and badge removal, as I feel the lines are pretty darn good already. The aim with a good custom is to enhance and improve, not to change for the sake of change.

I am thinking of replacing my L6 with a V6. I just bought an 06 Toyota truck and its just grate. Yesterday I am out in my P15 and it just stopped. After getting it home a friend, who has a machine shop, and I were talking an he ups and tells me about where I can buy 93 to 97 Toyota engines with 35 to 40K miles on them at $500 a pop. The engines are from Japan and are removed from cars at this mileage because the government will not let them go more than 40K due to their smog laws. I am sure going to look into it. I'll keep the forum posted on how it comes out.

Don't look for good gas mileage out of that Toyota engine (truck engine that is). I had a 93 4runner (3.0 V6), only 150hp and I was lucky to get 17mpg. Mostly about 15mpg. It would barely climb any kind of incline at highway speed. Lots of low-end torque, though. Now, if you were to cross over to the '96 engines, I think, you might be a little happier. More like 180hp and better gas mileage. I like the 2 engines thedahmer mentioned. Lots of go-fast parts available for them. There is a supercharger available for the later Toyota V6 engines, but not the earlier ones.

I've got a 94 dakota with a 3.9 v6 and a 5spd. Just hit 158K. Haven't touched a thing on that engine. Original clutch starter alternator fuel injectors etc. Oh wait I did have to do the water pump. Otherwise its been great. Straight freeway trips I get 22MPG.

I don't think I've ever filled up my P15 more than 3 or 4 times a year since 1995' date=' and I start it and move it almost once a week, year round, plus drive it some place about once a month.[/quote']

Norm;

"I start it and move it almost once a week,"

I cannot believe how low your gasoline bill is. I think I have used more fuel in two weeks than you have in 12 years. Buy a GARMIN! :D

Hi all,

I agree with Greg G. The 3.9 MoPar V-6 is a great little engine. Chrysler did with the 318 what Ch*vy did with the 350 when they came out with their 4.3V-6. Too bad Chrysler didn't use the 360 instead. Stay away from the 3.0L V-6 from Chrysler. Actually it's a Mitsubishi motor and has problems with the rings sticking and noisey valvetrain. (Grandma had one in her Chrysler/Maserati TC) Also, I don't think they ever put in anything that was rear wheel drive unlike the 3.9 that came in full size and Dakota trucks and uses the 318 bellhousing pattern.

Just my .02 worth.

Dan
