Guest jjmorrse Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 My green paint on the 54 is about shot. I was thinking of changing colors. I want to use single stage paint. The interior is green. The car was originally black outside, but I am not sure I want to do black quality bodywork and it is rough. I was thinking of doing a 2tone. I have seen the top done, sometimes with the tops of the doors also, sometimes only north of the driprails. Any ideas on something period correct that would look good?. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 First off there are a number of factory two tones available for your car...depending upon when it was manufactured, it could have the 55 colors on it. It is my understanding that the the later models, those with the automatics etc and maybe even all forward of that introduction date had the 55 two tones. My car is one of them..it is factory color and not in the standard 54 library you see most chip charts illustrate. There are as many color schemes as their is imagination I guess..however the standard two tone was inverted colors of light blue top, dark blue bottom then flip that for the other..this was offered flip flop top bottom of the schemes. Again, late models could very well have the 55 two tones which are more varied and prettier colors. Top...belt line and above Bottom...below the belt line... Any combination you wish in between with even a solid color top and bottom with the area between the beltline and the drip rail contrasting.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Wellll.....I think they offered green with a white roof in a 54 Plym. Or, maybe darker green with a real light green roof might be good. Do you have any sales literature showing the various models and colors available for that year? Or how about this color? Or, here's another 50 model with dark top, light bottom. Quote
builtfercomfort Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Depending on your location and driving habits, dark cars are tough in the Texas sun. My grandpaw down in Kerrville had a two-toned car ('56 Olds I think), white on the top, green on the sides, he liked it much better than a dark top. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 I just saw a huge selectionof two toners on Yahoo images..search 1954 Plymouth and click images... Quote
greg g Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 The green interior lends it self of course to green on the exterior. but might work with a color like Bob T vert. How about a light yellow or cream with a dark green top? something like olde English white with a BRG top might worl on less than an A plus body. Quote
anthonyb Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I know this is a bit older than your ride but I had this one all dark green at one time. 4-40 A/C didn't cut it here in central Texas so I went with the Seafoam green for the top. It cut at least 15 degrees off the inside temps after sitting out all day at work. Not sure of just where you might want to put the separation line but this one was pretty clear cut. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Actually the 54 has some very distinct cut lines..making paint schemes very easy...I have always loved the colors on your 41 I think the grille on the 41 Plymouth and 41 Dodge was the best of the 40's....not that the others are bad looking..just that these appeal to me more... BobT-47P15 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 53 blue and white........... Well now.....a little creative side trim.......... Dark blue and white top.... 1955....salmon pink and black..... Another source of many old car pics (many are street rods and customs) is Carnut.com. http://www.carnut.com/hobby.html Might look at newer 50s models. Also at other brands of cars. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 54 Chevy had a cream with green. I think there was also a yellow with green combo. Quote
