Additives in oil can most definitely help when he's having the issues he is, and unless your doing something wrong, they can't hurt, only help. Sorry have no idea if they stock it, as never looked for it. I will be at both stores at some point this weekend and will see. I buy my Seafoam at Piston Ring, (jobbers rate), and use only in my fuels. Why do you think the OP needs an oil additive BTW, instead of a good quality oil in the correct viscosity. I am 1 who does not think a quality engineered oil needs anything added in it, to upset an additive package it already is formulated. That's why I attached the HAMB thread, there was some excellent info based on an Oil Experts findings, and not conjecture, opinions or hearsay.... These low rpm, low valve spring pressure engines, with cam lobes not overly sharp, do very well on most oils, including cheap oils you might find at a "Dollar Tree". I am currently using Klondike heavy Duty 15 W 40, but Rotella T or Castrol 20 W 50 would be good too. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Ok I will go see tomorrow and what I can find. By the way 55 Fargo Spitfire. I have been looking at that H.A.M.B link you posted. I did put 15W40 from Canadian Tire into it. Maybe it isn't the best. Brought oil pressure up. One positive I guess. Quote

Nothing wrong with that Oil , most likely Shell product. Run it and it should be fine. The HAMB link is good info, and backed up by facts a good read, I was also suggesting 4mula and anyone else to also read it.. You have cleaned out the oil pan, did you clean out the oil filter housing too? The lifter chambers is another spot that can get full of sludge, but harder to get into with the manifolds in the way etc.. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 I was looking at the oil filter housing. I was going to do something with but where can you get the filer for them. I bought a sock filter I think they are called but it was to big. Got it a Piston Ring on Regent. You are a Manitoba Guy right. Quote

55 Fargo Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 BTW if you left the old oil filter in, and changed the oil, your oil would get dark from the pint of dark oil in the filter housing. So get the right filter and clean it out... use a dollorama turkey baster to suck out all the old oil if you don't want to unbolt the filter canisister.. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Is there a couple different types of those filters because I did buy one. I took it back because it was about a inch to high for my canister. Or do they just get stuff in there. And tightened up don't want to break the thing or maybe because this engine is out of a old combine it was different. I have no Idea. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Ok I didn't buy one of those I bought the fabric type. I guess they are the ones that are to big. Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 WIX 51080 is a very common type. I think it's time for you to post some pics, in order for us to help you. I have combine engines too, and the filter is a 51080. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Ya I will post some tomorrow. I tied yesterday but with the 3mb limit and my phone taking 1080p photos it doesn't work. I have to find a way to take them and bring size down. I went on wix site a got measurements for that filter and will see if it will fit. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Ok so after you change the cartridge inside the oil canister do you fill the canister back up with oil? For aome reason that makes sense to me. Quote

55 Fargo Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 (edited) My oil filter canisters never needed priming and they don't seem to hold a quart either. I once had a bad seal in the lid it was gushing out in no time flat and I didn't add oil into it. Whichever way suits you should be fine Edited June 10, 2017 by 55 Fargo Spitfire Quote

With a full flow system the oil goes first to the filter and next to the engine. With a by-pass filter the oil goes first to the engine and next to the filter. 1 Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Well I just ordered the filter from Piston Ring. Can't put on till later today after it stops raining. Will tell how it is in the canister. If the thermostat is any indication of how long anything has been done to this engine. Thermostat had date on it of 04/1967. This should be fun. Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 (edited) Yup, by pass, partial flow oil filter housing. Although I have not owned this style myself. Pull the old filter and measure, for the right fit.. BTW that engine looks like a Piston Ring rebuild going by the color..is there a rebuilders tag by chance? 55 Fargo Posted June 10, 2017 Report Posted June 10, 2017 My engine, 228 ci in my Fargo, here is my future engine 265, which is going hi perf. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Yes actually on the bottom of the engine do you want pictures of the tag. Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Oh and I just went to piston ring to buy this guess I should have measured it first lol Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Here is the tag on side of engine Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 Ok so I just took filter out and there was already a wix filter in there. It was filter # 51071 I looked at wix main page and its for a dodge truck 57 to 59 and 51080 is for 46 to 56. I checked them out and they are pretty much same filter. Quote

I wished the rods and mains were standard but oh well. Check on top of the head, there is a small flat spot, did Piston Ring put the date on yours? Quote
bambamshere Posted June 10, 2017 Author Report Posted June 10, 2017 (edited) I will check. I just had mine going And still running really rough. Think I need to find someone to come over and set the points. Just to show me for first time and do the timing on this truck. Every thing else short of putting stuff in the oil and rebuilding engine and setting points.Everything else is done. Edited June 10, 2017 by bambamshere Had to chage a sentence in the paragraph Quote
