Hey all I started a transmission thread on the car board. It's not limited to anything specific A833 ,R 10 or R7 even T5s.

I have a question to the T5 guys those of you with the older T5 conversions with a 4.03 1st gear and .86 5th how are you liking it?

What diff gears are you running?

Is it possible to use 1st gear how are the gear spreads.

Im helping another Mopar flathead enthusiast with his conversion.

He is determined to use this trans in spite of a low 1st gear and mild overdrive 5th gear.

Mine's not on the road yet so I can't really comment how it's working. It's getting closer though!

I think any of the 4.03 1st gear transmission it would not be so much fun with 3.73 to 4.11 gearing. .86 overdrive might not be so great for those diff gearing either.

Another issue his engine is in the truck so 3 ways this transplant could be done.

1 pull engine

2 block engine and remove Belk housing flywheel etc been there it's not so fun

3 Or do the drilling and tapping in the truck and leave flywheel alone.

I might be doing this work with him so we  shall see.

I don't think I'd attempt 3. The drilling is pretty easy with a bench top drill press.

Hey All,

Just thought I would create a thread dedicated to T5 conversions, pitfalls, methods and what is needed to make it work whether you have a car or truck.

It seems that the underlying purpose of these transmission conversion threads is to start heated debates.

The argument baiting is very apparent.

Why start an "OFFICIAL" thread on T5 swaps only to eventually show a picture of a T5 being dragged behind a truck? Even if stated as a joke, the message is very clear. A point is trying to be proven that one method (the 833 trans) is "better" than all others, facts aside.

Too bad all the hype and fighting has soured my taste; I have been wanting to see an 833 swap done in a truck. Had every post about an 833 not included a swipe at other trannys, or touted how "robust" and "precision machined" this and that was, it would have been cool. Now, not so much.

Don't take the bait!

And what exactly is your agenda John?

The A833 is most likely 1 of the most rugged robust transmissions ever built, the Overdrive later models, not quite as much, but still up there. Do you have a problem with that?

The plate is a high quality precision piece, I am not asking you to concur, do I need to?

The only reason you have soured your taste, is that you are a T5 conversion owner, nothing more and nothing less, and frankly I don't give a damn.

You have 1 of the bell housings that required the langdon kit, and to have at least 1 bolt hole welded up and drilled and tapped right next to it, not a huge deal, but a lot of fuss.

TAKE THE BAIT, think I have been the one to get suckered in by a few of your associates, me bad for that.

The pictures of the T5 trans being drug or used as a wheel chock are stunts, that did not have any damaging affect to the trans, perhaps a bad joke on my part, but I am not one to destroy any part.. Sorry if you found my dark humor to sensitive...

I am suggesting these threads take the time to cool off, and continue when cooler heads prevail.
