Billy6 Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 Does anyone know if flatty 6 volt temp gauge senders are still available? Would a 12 volt sender work? 1940 plym P10. Thanks! Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 15, 2016 Report Posted December 15, 2016 There is nothing electrical associated with the temperature gauge sender. It is a either filled capillary bulb and tube. This should be covered in your service manual. Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Yes the electrical temp senders and gauges came later, in the 50s. Unless you have a later engine and the later gauge, yours will be a mechanical gauge with capillary bourdon tube. The only part electrical will be the tiny bulb that illuminates the gauge in your dash. Quote
Billy6 Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 Thanks! the temp gauge is missing from the dash and I just assumed it was to be an electric unit. The temp sender hole in the block is plugged with a iron plug. So now I search for a capillary mechanical gauge. That'll be interesting to try and find. I suppose a later electrical gauge and sender would work, wouldn't it? Quote
TodFitch Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Last I checked there were still "mechanical" temperature gauges available in the bubble pack section of my local auto supply store. It would surprise me if that were not still true. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 they still out there and as a add on accessory about any one will fit the bill. But as an added note to some here that has a bad bulb stuck in a head and damaged on removal and wish to graft per Tod's instructions/technique and keep the factory gauge head and placement...watch for the better built units and larger tube size for ease in grafting Quote
