thebelvedereman Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 My 48 p has a complete volare drive train, wiring harness and gauge cluster with the one wire system, It also has the original p15 fuel tank with what's left of the two wire sender (shot) my question is do they make a 12 volt negative ground one wire sender that reads 10-76 ohms (the ohms of the volare) that will fit in my p15 tank, thanks Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 Have you checked a Volare parts dealer? Quote
thebelvedereman Posted September 23, 2016 Author Report Posted September 23, 2016 My first idea was a volare sender but the volare tank is narrower and a bit deeper, plus it has the tube/filter for the fuel line built on like most newer mopars, they say the ohms are the same on all mopars from 60's through the 90's (10-76) but haven't found one same length, plus they all have the lock ring setup not the 5 screws like the p15 Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 Check Auto Meter. They have a 5 bolt single wire but I don't know the ohm rating. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 often it is simpler to combine the components of the two for operation...mount and tube for the P15 and its tank...tack on the float and sender of the donor car....Bob's your uncle...it has been about a week since doing one like this myself..no need to make things complicated 1 Quote
thebelvedereman Posted September 29, 2016 Author Report Posted September 29, 2016 Finally got a breather, dad got out of the hospital today, so I can stop running around like and idiot and get back on track with the car, I was able to pull out the "original" sender, there's pretty much nothing left, so fabbing one from 2 isn't possible (especially because I don't have the volare or its sender) i found one from a 50's caddy that supposedly is the right ohms and a one wire Quote
YukonJack Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Would one from a D24 work? I think I read somewhere that the Dodges were 1 wire. Quote
Seaside Pete Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Tanks inc sell a 1 wire sender that I used, with full instructions how to cut it down to suit your tank with the correct 10-76 ohms. 1 Quote

thebelvedereman Posted September 30, 2016 Author Report Posted September 30, 2016 Hey does anyone know if there's any p15 guys in the nj area, I've got some stuff that I want to give away, but I don't want to ship, its not in great shape but I can't see throwing it away, I've got a radio (I'm keeping one) a set of horns with relay, a bunch of bumperettes some clean, some need blasted and rechromed a steering wheel and the under dash controller free Quote
raystewart Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 What part of NJ are you in? I could use the horns if you are not too far away, Thanks Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 GA and NJ are quite the distance....that be a long commute... Quote
raystewart Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 My thought as well, but he says NJ area, perhaps he, like myself, made a move north from the Peach state? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 am thinking he has sourced these parts via internet and would hope to join with a fellow member close to pick up said parts and split the bounty...PM to the man would be best avenue to get details Quote

I'm just across the border on the Portland Bridge on 611. I'm covered up this week and the coming weekend, but if you're not in a hurry maybe we could get together the following week sometime? Quote

Doing so will provide a rock solid 6 volt supply current to the gauge. Even if you keep the 6volt system, this will make for steadier gauge readings as there won't be voltage fluctuations in that circuit. I'm not too familiar with the two wire fuel gauge circuit but, this works well for one wire systems that have 6 volt gauges. A 5 volt gauge would need a 7805 reg. Some after market gauges are 12 volt and have regulators built into them. Edited October 4, 2016 by ptwothree add missing word Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 all 46-48 two wire models have a 5 volt regulator built into them...look in the book...read the theory of operation... Quote
