ssnowden Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 I want a semi-permanent paint booth, but want to be able to collapse it. I didn't want to go with the plastic pipe and plastic although that's a great idea. I have a corner of my shop where this will work very well. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/wanna-build-a-spray-booth-but-no-room-in-your-shop-check-this-out.417424/ Quote
casper50 Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 a lot of work for one car but if you were going to be doing a few well worth it. Nice idea for sure. Quote
Eneto-55 Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 If you have a pit over which you could do this, and could hook up an exhaust fan to do a down draft into the pit & out, I've heard people say that is the best system. Personally, I've never had the chance to paint a car in anything but just a section of a garage, and cover up everything you dont want painted, and then wet the floor down as much as possible. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 with HVLP (true HVLP with 10PSI at tip) overspray is really at a minimum compared to conventional gun.,,,downdraft booth would be great but you can do well with end wall exhaust....do provide a very large filtered input door to eliminate swirling and to fast a air flow that will disturb your spraying as you get close to the input door. MY floor is set up for constant water trickle to keep the floor wet with drain built in I also have and suggest exit filters that does remove particles from entering the atmosphere....after many cars painted my grilles are still bright white. Last thing you need is a neighbor complaining of paint fallout on his car or house if you are close to your neighbors. 2 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 a shot of the input filter door of the booth....shows taped and de-tape of the light gray...notice the walk board that the short people must use to be able to spray the roof of a taller than average car of today....you do what ya got to do..... 1 Quote

I believe the cars of yesterday are taller than the cars of today. However it makes no difference to me as I growed up. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) painting a taller car to a short person is about as restrictive as a tall person under a dash trying to rewire...you are faced with your own limitations...both are overcome with a few added steps...walk boards in my case...removing the front seat In yours... I think the very reason I have not sprayed the 41 coupe is that I have no cut line....so two step painting is out of the question and moving walkboards about in the booth can lead to a brush with fresh coat of paint..I may end up removing the wheels from that car and putting it on dollies putting it real close to the floor...time will tell.... ssnowden Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) How about these? Edited August 3, 2016 by ssnowden Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 you would have a flash time as you stopped to take these off to shoot the lower half....I know I know...no pleasing everyone..often no middle ground.. Quote
Eneto-55 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Maybe some "walk boards" that would flip out from the wall would do the trick. My younger brother finish-coated mine, and he is tall, and I don't recall that he had a problem with this. Quote
