knuckleharley Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 took the 48 up the block today for the first time, I think I've got another issue, I've got 1st and reverse but no 2nd or drive, looks like I'm rebuilding a trans I think if it were me I would have someone who understands whatever brand/type of auto trans you have in the car first to see if they can discover what it wrong with it before you take it out and have it rebuilt. Might just be something simple like the modulator valve, not getting enough vacuum,or some other simple fix. Quote
thebelvedereman Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 its a 727, no modulator, being a lifelong Mopar guy I've been here more than once, the bands are gone Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) bummer.............sweet part is that the units are so easily obtained......good time to snag a 4 speed OD A500 or A518 and pop in there... Edited August 3, 2016 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
thebelvedereman Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 thinking about it, I've always wanted to try my hands at bands, I might just give that a try first Quote
mopar_earl Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 Aren't some of the bands adjusted during fluid change? Maybe just a matter of band adjustment? Earl Quote
thebelvedereman Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 yes in a normal situation if the trans was slipping a little you can try and adjust them with the bolt, but when you have no gear at all which is my case they're shot and there's nothing left to adjust:) Quote
thebelvedereman Posted August 11, 2016 Author Report Posted August 11, 2016 I talked a while back about my 727 trans in my 48 only having 1st gear, I've been way too busy at work to mess with it, or take it out (thank god) after doing a bunch of research i came across an article last night, apparently the tv linkage shaft runs directly through the kickdown linkage shaft, and sometimes after sitting for a long time it can rust and stick together causing the trans not to upshift, and sure enough after checking this morning that's the problem, i guess i don't get to try my hand at a tranny rebuild yet LOL !!!!!!!! 4 Quote
JerseyHarold Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 Had that exact issue on a '76 Valiant years ago. Luckily I knew a transmission guy who was amazingly honest and fixed it at no charge. Quote
