Don Coatney Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 Nope tach built for flat 6 6volt system Interesting. Six volt I understand but why would flathead or overhead make a difference? Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted June 18, 2016 Report Posted June 18, 2016 The NOS one I have will work with 6 or 12 volt.....pos or neg ground .........and 4, 6 or 8 cylinder. It is supposed to even work on a CDI system but it has problems with the trigger once the revs are up. Jeff Quote

Todd B Posted June 20, 2016 Report Posted June 20, 2016 Maybe it's just pinging and not a rpm issue, my timing is pretty far forward, if I'm hard on it I can make it ping on regular gas, premium and it all goes away. Quote

I have saying this for years but all the others say I am wrong. Shell Premium is all I run. I really notice the pinging pulling my trailer using low octane gas. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted June 21, 2016 Report Posted June 21, 2016 I try to use shell here too, it's the only gas for sure that doesn't use ethanol in their premium. When we did the Devils Lake show a few weeks ago we got the Sinclair premium...really nice stuff, my car ran like a champ with that stuff..and helped fix the bad tank of premium I got in Dunseith ND. I think sometimes the word "ping" confuses people as the noise is more like a low pitched knocking, but they expect something else. Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 21, 2016 Report Posted June 21, 2016 My Fargo, runs just fine on Manitoba Regular gas supposedly 10% ethanol, but usually buy Premium, for the no ethanol content. My engine does not ping, so my timing must not be too far advanced, so far no issues with fuel quality in this area. If your engine is detonating a lot, should you not retard the timing a bit? Quote
