stan's52 Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 I picked up a couple widow fizzies, or wipers at a swap meet today. One attaches to the window frame. the other piece attaches to the door. The old ones were held on with what looked like wire staples, Any body have a way to attach these pieces? The guy I bought them from said just glue them on. That didn't sound right. Any thoughts? Stan Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 you can glue them....but when you have to remove/install glass you will no doubt have to rip the door mounted fuzzy off for the room to slide the glass with the attached lift bar.....the one on the garnish will stay with the garnish...look to loose some paint in the process of removing a glued on wiper.. gluing is not my recommendation but many folks will falter a bit at drilling the holes required to affix with snap in clips making the unit totally serviceable and literally a snap going in and out should the need arise...look to International, Ford and some GM clips of the era...personally I use the Ford clips with excellent results. 1 Quote
Andydodge Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 I used 1/8th pop rivets, just drilled a hole and used 5-6 pop rivets to attach them to both the garnish molding and door edge, couldn't find any pop rivets that were black so just used some Humbrol model paint and a small brush.........Testors model paint would work as well...........looks fine for me..........andyd Quote
DonaldSmith Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 I used really small screws, and painted the heads black. I madfe sure the screws were driven in all the way, so that the heads didn't protrude. Quote
Branded Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 I've made the staples out of stainless wire and reattached the new fuzzies like they came from the factory. You might have to use a small bit the red rill the holes where the old staple were. Dave 1 Quote
Bingster Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 My main concern is that when I replace the fuzzies, that once installed they will not bind on the window. You have no way of knowing till the door's assembled, do you? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) yes...put them in factory position they will do their job effectively..only one company makes fuzzies regardless of where you buy them as I was informed by a leading retailer Edited February 28, 2016 by Plymouthy Adams Quote
Probey53 Posted February 28, 2016 Report Posted February 28, 2016 Hi new to the forum . Has anyone put window channel in a 53 dodge pickup ? And how to install the clips that hold the channel in ? Need help on how to post ? Quote
Andydodge Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 As I mentioned previously I used 1/8th pop rivets to attach both the channel and side pieces........here in Oz they are known as "Bailey Channel" both for the channel style and the single sided pieces..........pop rivets have been holding it on for 35 yrs...............andyd Quote
rb1949 Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Plymouthy, do you possibly have a picture of the clip you used, and how it was attached to the channel. Did it have a name? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2015Catalog/35.pdf if you decide to go with these better clips..be sure you understand how to install and secure the wipers on the initial install...else you will likely damage clips and the wiper... jcmiller Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 This may or may not help regarding the channel: http://p15-d24.com/topic/39916-window-channel/ For the fuzzy strips, I used the stainless wire approach mentioned by an earlier poster. Quote
Seaside Pete Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 I purchased these for my P15. They came with small screws. I am yet to fit them but, as they are supplied I can only assume they will work. Pete Quote
