50 coupe Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 Hey all. I want to wire a switch for my electric fuel pump. I would like for it to only have power when the ignition switch is on. So far I can only find connections that are always hot. What are my options? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 The negative side of the coil or the ignition switch. Use your volt meter or a test light to find the terminal that is hot only with the key on. 2 Quote

pflaming Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 I did as Neil said and I will never return to the mechanical pump. When I start the engine, I give the pump a three second head start and my engine starts immediately, no choke, no foot pedal, starts on idle. My dad had a 38 IH 2 ton truck with an electric pump. It could sit for months and then start right up. Great truck to drive, put 250 bushels (15,000 lbs) in the bed and go where you wanted to go. Quote
suntennis Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 You can also use the accessory terminal of the ignition switch. 2 Quote

Labrauer Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 What did you do with the mechanical fuel pump? Did you take it out or is it still installed and used after the engine starts? I am looking to put an electric fuel pump on my 48 but I have heard that if used with the mechanical pump if it gets a hole in the diagram it could put gas into the crankcase. Information needed. pflaming Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 I have a bolt on cover for the fuel pump place, but I have not used it. I bipassed the mechanical pump to the electric one and left the mechanical one on for the look. 1 Quote

50 coupe Posted February 26, 2016 Author Report Posted February 26, 2016 My manual pump wasn't working and read nothing good about the 'repops' so I removed the mechanical pump altogether and made a cover plate with gasket and bolted it on the block where the manual pump attaches. Quote
