55 Fargo Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 MEK is vicious stuff, yup have seen this video before. The carb is clean, and the Xylene has the carbon soft, so will brush it off and see.. Quote
soth122003 Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 You're right. MEK is viscious stuff. I used it a lot in the military and it would eat right through those nitrile gloves as well. The military even scaled back its use because it was a serious carcanogenic. And when even the military says its bad, you might want to be wary. Joe Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 We used it to do lots of things in the Navy.....it ran the gamut from paint thinner for Imron all the way to soaking jet engine parts in it, even put a drop or 2 in the mop bucket once in a while....lol! Gotta get those stubborn stains out for inspection. We used its weaker sister Naptha Alphatic also.....works good in a zippo thats for sure, sometimes pull a stain of the deck also. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 we were shut down from using MEK in the Army in 1974, we then basically reverted to hand cleaning with swabs...personally I saw an increase in equipment reliability as lubrication from routine maintenance was not washed away for areas normally hard to reach Quote
