Tones52 Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Last week, my wife and I went to visit the newly remodeled Peterson Automotive Museum. If you're ever in the Los Angeles area, it's well worth a visit. Check them out on-line as well. There was no shortage of just beautiful cars. Among those is this gorgeous Ghia designed '54 Plymouth Explorer Idea hardtop. Maybe next time we go, we'll spring for the guided tour of "The Vault" which i have to guess is something else. RodFru2u Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Tony, The Vault used to have some great cars, I'm sure there are many still there. I had heard they sold a few of their " Gems " to pay for the remodel. I got a chance to visit the Vault years ago.I loved the Black Rolls Royce with the round doors, There were some beautiful autos down there. Hope to get back there to see the " New Peterson " . Thanks for the heads up Tony, & Stay Dry, Rod 2 Quote
mattimuss Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Our car club, The Motorhead Misfits, was invited to attend a special tour that went down into the lower levels. To say it was impressive would be an understatement. While in the lower level we got to get up-close to this car. If I remember correctly they were preparing the car for display at the time of our visit. Here are a few of the pictures I took back then: [Please forgive the poor quality, it was my first digital camera that wasn't a high quality model] Edited January 23, 2016 by mattimuss 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 It's got a flathead 6. Must have been before the Chrysler V8s got down to the Plymouths. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 looks like Hudson hinges on the hood Quote
deathbound Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) Petty cool Tony. How is that new "flame" structure? I have to go check it out, a few brother Iron Workers I'm friends with worked on it. Edited January 25, 2016 by deathbound 1 Quote
whtbaron Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 I shot these pics of the 54 Dodge Firearrows in the Imperial Palace in Vegas a few yrs ago. I never saw them with the hood up, but I think these 2 had Hemi's in them. Very classy little sports cars for their time. It's too bad Ma Mopar never marketed them with Hemi's against the Corvettes and T-birds of the day. 1 Quote

Ulu Posted January 26, 2016 Report Posted January 26, 2016 I recognized the Ghia styling right off. It was so distinctive. Quote
Tones52 Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Derek, I thought the exterior breathtaking. It was cloudy the day we went but would love to go back and catch it from driving east on Wilshire or stand across the street on a sunny day. I enjoyed the Firearrow concept car photos and history. Here's an ABC story on the Peterson. We'll definitely be going back. http://abc7.com/automotive/preview-of-las-made-over-petersen-automotive-museum/1111440/ 2 Quote
