Side View Mirror

I'm getting ready to install the original driver's side view mirror on my Plymouth. I replaced the driver's door with a better one, and that door did not have a mirror attached to it, so there are no holes to guide me as to location. It looks like the screws just go into the sheet metal but I want to ask and be sure that there isn't anything inside the door that the screws are supposed to thread into.

You will find no reinforcing back up plate for a rare factory mirror or any other mirror on any 1949-52 plymouth.

Put it where you need it.

Enjoy!

unfortunately the time to do the mirror is when the door panel if off and you can make a curved backer to fit inside and mark, drill, tap if thick enough or weld a nut to the backer..a third small screw covered by the mirror base when mounted would hold the baker in place while servicing the firror off the car if need be..another suggestion..buy a matching mirror now to hve on hand if this one should get dmagaed...finding the exact model years from now when you need to service it will not likely be a fun search and more holed will be required.  Suggest that you get a mirror from a dedicated modelt hat has repop following.

Clipons are good........they were authentic to "in the day"..........our family's P15 had a rectangular mirror rather than a

round one.....that was probably simply my Dad's choice.

I found this round one as a used item at a swap meet.   There is no piece underneath for added strength, but have

not had any problems with stability so far.

Robin from the U K, and some others, have used a certain brand of mirror that seems good and

sturdy with a round head.  Not a clip on.  Maybe one of them can say where these are found.

Bernbaum has sideview mirrors that attach where the six inch long ss trim is located ahead of the front door.

Andy Bernbaum sells a W-110 clipon mirror, but gives no dimensions.  Has anyone purchased this item or know what the dimensions are?

Trying to match the one on the driver's side, and it's apx 4 1/2" mirror with a 5" arm.  Looks just like the one you have pictured Don.

Did you ask Andy? What is his price? Are they sold as a pair?

Didn't call Andy, but the catalog price is $16.

Meantime I found one at O'Reilly's ... same exact mirror as the one I have on the driver's door.  $16.99 plus tax.

Put it on this afternoon.

E-bay will show you many pictures, many custom shops that advertise in hot rod mags will have some prices, photos and applications to aide you along.  A clip on is just that...many use them and stick them in various places along the door as best suited to their driving needs.  Find body mounted mirrors is yet another pain and finding them in duals that will actually make the right one useable...still looking for them myself...

46 Ply --- as you can see, it sometimes pays to check with everyday auto parts stores like O'Reilly and others.

They still have some things available that apply to our old cars.  I think they still have some ignition switch tumblers

with key as well as the water connector that screws into the back end of the block and you attach the heater hose.

O'Reilly has some wheel cyls for early 1950s Plymouths.

Good point Bob-T,  I always do that.  Never know what you can find, but it's a big help to know the part no. before you go in there.

First thing they want to do is know what you're driving?  And most items won't show up.

Thanks to you, I had the right part no. before I went in there.  Otherwise, I may never have found it.
