ACJCF2 Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 Today is doubly sad for South Carolinians. Last night a young, misguided youth shot and killed nine parishioners in Charleston, SC overshadowing the anniversary of the death of nine Charleston Firefighters who died whilst combating a fire in the Sofa Superstore 8 years ago today. plymouthcranbrook Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 I freely admit that I no longer have an understanding of why people do what they do. I do realize that Monkey see, Monkey do is part of it. The way people are today is so different from how I grew up that I am beginning to fear for the security of Mankind. I know Old folks like me have always said the world is going to Hell in the Hand-basket but this time I fear we are right. Quote
Labrauer Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 I just don't understand people these days and the way they have no respect for a human life nor their own. I have to wonder a few things one of which is blaming the parent for not teaching their kids right from wrong and not teaching them respect for themselves or anyone else. Second I have to put the blame partly on the system we live in today on taking the disciplining out of the parents hands and doing away with corporal punishment in the schools and home. Third I put the blame on the TV shows and videos kids have to watch and play these days being filled with violence and killings making it look like a wonderful thing to do. Fourth I put the blame on the government for raising taxes so far up that it takes both parents to work so they can make ends meet being at work all the time and the kids have no supervision after school. With all the illegals or whatever you want to call them coming over to the states committing crimes and our commander and chief (obama) letting criminals go to commit these crimes over and over doesn't help either and again with all this political correct crap they harp on doesn't help the matters any. I remember when I was growing up if you talked back to an adult or got into trouble at school or anywhere else you got disciplined (spanked) there and when we got home too. We learned to be polite to people no matter who they where or what color their skin was. I really feel sorry for the young folks these days in a way because society has put this on them on more ways than one. One other thing is that our schools have mummified down the teaching of kids and teach only in order for the kids to be able to pass those stupid state test so they can get more money from the government and state. What happened to Reading, Math, Science, History ect. that we learned in school and the way we learned it by good old teachers that took pride in their teachings and not be worried that if their students don't pass those test they will be fired. My daughter was a school teacher and got out of it because if one of her students didn't do a damn thing all year the lowest grade she could give them was a 50 and then on top of that if they did get that 50 grade the parents wouldn't get on to the kid they would attack the teacher saying it was her fault they didn't pass the class. We are so worried we can't keep up with the Joan's and what they have that we overlook what we ought to be looking at. 2 Quote
Ulu Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 I head on the news that a cop trying to arrest some JD got bit by the kid, and then the cop tazed him & took him to jail. The kid's mother actually apologized to the cop whom her kid bit. So not everyone is crazy, and clearly there is hope for the world yet. 1 Quote

We are so worried we can't keep up with the Joan's and what they have that we overlook what we ought to be looking at. I often remember a favorite phrase of a former Scouting Co-Leader of mine. "Never underestimate the power of fear as a positive motivator" Along those same vein where I work (a large national Amusement park) they have a new thing for us who work in the operations department. They want us to be much kinder and gentler in dealing with the guests who misbehave on our rides. We are ruining everyone's day by yelling at the ones who are endangering themselves and others by doing what ever they want instead of following the safety rules. I say to heck with that. Take control and keep it. I don't mean being rude or nasty but to keep people safe you need to let them know that you are in charge and responsible. If it irritates them some to be corrected, too da*n bad. I can only imagine what would be said if some Dodo stands up on a Coaster to show off and falls and gets hurt or worse. "Why did you let that happen?"would be the least of it. Children are just little barbarians who need to be taught to be civilized. You don't have to beat them or abuse them but they must be taught to face the consequences of their actions. Edited June 22, 2015 by plymouthcranbrook 1 Quote
Ulu Posted June 22, 2015 Report Posted June 22, 2015 . . .You don't have to beat them or abuse them . . . No, you shouldn't. You have to lead them. Your kids will do what you do, and particularly in those things you wish they wouldn't copy. My daughter is unafraid to tear into a broken car or a broken TV. When the washing machine needs repair she doesn't call her husband. He's a nice guy, but he's the son of a banker who never held a lug wrench or a torch or knew what to do with either. He watched his dad watch TV & he's real good at that. Mine watched me fix things and build things. They don't watch much TV. 1 Quote

I agree with all of the above comments!! How did the fire start 8 years ago. Quote
