Since my little project has gotten out of hand and a 800.00 truck has cost me 14,000 in parts and labor so far I thought  I had better take a shot at saving some money on my interior. Found some stuff to use at home depot made by parkland plastics that is super easy to mold and bend smothh on one side and very light graining on the other side its white but can be painted.  this is not the rough textured stuff that is tough to cut, this stuff cuts with sissors. Love the quite ride stuff, and pilothouse interiors, but its just not in the cars, and since I built a new firewall the stock stuff will not work.  Well I thought I would build the fire wall piece first and it fit like a glove. so  I did the kick panels and the came out nice too. But when it come to the back panel and the head liner. I could use a little help to get it right any pics or templates you have of these area would be great.  Sorry no pics now, dropped the camera at the body shop so will have to pick one up.  what I am focused on is the area around the 3 windows and shape of headliner and side pieces.  the stuff I brough was 19.98 for a 4x8 sheet stock number 179646 at home depot. my roof has 2 mounting points for the headliner, if that matters. thanks for your support.  

 

Tip of the day never pick paint colors while online.  my driftwood beige and vintage burgundy metalic is looking like gold and purple to me. well we shall see. lol  painter keeps telling me  it will be ok  think he's laughing behind my back LOL

save money...find a hobby that you do not have to farm out to everyone else......seems quite the outlay of cash..golf is one such hobby...walk and put divots in another mans property and if you check the woods line you may end up playing with other people balls also..pay to play

My hemi Orange looked really really red when I got the can home, and opened it up, but it's just a darker version IMO, and not really red once it's on the truck....I just hope the second can is the exact same tint. Pics would be great!

First off in my defense   I did not farm out a ton of work, only some of the heavy welding, some sand blasting and the final body work and paint.

the total I gave was for every dime spent, I mean everything, every nut, bolt, tow, fluid ect, I venture to say that everyone spends more than they think they did if the wrote down every last cent. and did not space the work over 10 years and lose track  I was not bitching, just stating that I thought I could get good results without having to spend a fortune for interior . I may have spent more than others but, I may not be as upside down as you think, if I ever sell it.   because I Kept it Mopar, made it comforable, drivable  and safe for anyone, not just someone who wants to drive a few miles a month. I'll get pics up when I can,for those who need a new target, but as I stated in early posts its not everyone cup of tea. and opinions are like assholes everyones got one.  I'm starting to think the site has a couple of online bullies who spend weeks talking about cats and launch negitive comments on everything someone else does from wheels to paint. If I had a dollar for every negitive coment posted I would not have to save money at all I was always taught if you don't have nothing nice to say keep your mouth shut.  If you don't think the interior stuff that is sold for the pilot house era truck is high for a peice of plastic or board covered in vinyl, good for you. but there is nothing wrong with thinking outside the box. Thats what the designers of the truck were doing when they built it different than all the others.

my statement was for the hobby in general and only to your comment SAVE MONEY.......we have people on here that have spent in excess of 80,000.00 for a 12,000.00 car that is still not trusty and roadworthy.....I well know the cost of cars and the cost of doing business...but it is a fact and everyone honest with themselves know that any and all work farmed out will add to the cost in manner that would cut into any net return should for reasons out of our control we must sell...thus the pay to play comment...that one seems to hit a lot of nerves..honest bites...some areas as we all know are also in a greater cost of living bracket where a cost in this town is not so high would seem out of range to another person's area of operation....that was the only reason for the comment.....you happy..I am happy you are happy...I am glad you did not add in an hourly cost for your own labor..everyone would be upside down if you did that..

When it came to the interior for my truck, I just knew I wanted something better then the home made stuff I had done previously, now that being said I'm still building my own door and kick panels, but only because nobody offers what I want, which is a full door panel, not just 1/2 like the factory...same with kick panel...I want the whole thing covered, not just 3/4s. The headliner and rear window wrap however were done by Pilothouse Interiors, and the lengths they go too, to make a moulded and proper headliner and rear window piece are quite a bit more then just cardboard and some vynil glued on....it's honestly just stuff the average guy cannot do, especially if you want sown edges that really make it nice.

I haven't quite got to the install of the stuff yet, but should be early next week, just before the carpet goes in, but what I see in the box is something there is no way I could do! I also had them build mine custom, so I believe as of now, it's the only orange headliner out there in a PH....or so my narrow mind has to believe LOL

Oh....as for the outlay of cash....I'm well into 5 figures now as well, and that's with 95% all hands on by me and buying a lot of parts at just above cost...so it's not a hobby for the faint of heart, or light of pocket book!

Here on the left coast a good paint job is $5,000 no body work included, a rebuilt short block is $3,000, tires and rims are $400, disc brakes are $300, seat covers are $400, glass is. $400, good sound deadening is $400 add just those and the number is $9,900.00. There are items I have not included it adds up.

Yet, one can easily half that and have a safe and sound driver thus one reason patina finishes are appearing. I farmed out my king pins, had my rods and pistons balanced, and had the head squared. All else I've done myself with the help of a couple "grumpy" forum friends who taught me to do it right, a fire storm, and a phantom cat which was all in fun and which helped me keep my sanity.

Sorry if I was a bit grumpy this morning.  and yes some time I bitch about the cost of things. I agree the pilothose interiors look like quality stuff, I guess I am just wanting to see this thing thru with out having to keep draining my walet.  Don't feel I took too many short cuts to save a buck. LOL  Hope you all gave someone in your life a great mothers day
