Electrical radiator fan question

I'm going 12volt so that answers the 6 volt question. According to what I have read, In normal driving the air flow above 30 MPH is sufficient to cool the engine. My truck runs cool so researching the potential.  I try to look down the road use what I have now and pickup something on the lamb when it appears.  With two grand kids at our home six days a week, a quiet ride is greatly undervalued.

So will run with a oem fan for now.

Now I am really confused. Are you going to be hauling sheep in your truck that are sensitive to the noise produced by the belt driven fan?

Or did you intend to say on the lam? If I were on the lam I would not try to outrun the fuzz or other authorities in a Pilothouse truck no matter if it were equipped with an electric fan or not.

Most aftermarket fans do make much more noise than say one out of a Taurus etc. I had a Spal fan in my old hot rod and one nite I came to a red light with some kids in the other lane and they asked if I had a blower under the hood . The fan was that loud. It cooled the motor but it was not that quiet.

I think you'll find a fiberglass-blade (flexible) fan a better replacement than an electrical one. Circuitry for the electric fan and it's switches can be problematic and they (the electric fans) are noisy.

I appreciate straight forward answers, TKS. Electric fans turn off when not needed, so then would be off when cruising. I don't mind the sound around town, in fact, I enjoy it. But on. 50 mile jaunts and longer, then the hum is a bit annoying. I used my truck most every day, pre fire so take lots of 50 mile rides. The BBQ is about 160 miles for me, drove that once will do it again this April. So, just researching what is involved.

Paul I have a 16" pusher fan that I got from Speedway. It is very quiet. You could just run it off a HD switch to begin with. Not a big deal to install either. You can try something like this out by removing the manual fan temporarily to see if it all works out as planned. If it does you can add a controller.and go automatic. If it doesn't work the way you want it to you still have an emergency back up for when you are stuck in traffic on a hot day.
