Bingster Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 I removed the interior window garnish moudling off my '47 Desoto and found four rubber plugs that were used to cushion the moulding to the metal frame of the windshield. These are so obscure that I doubt I'll be able to get any NOS. I've tried. Steele certainly doesn't have them. But I was thinking of approaching Steele to possibly add them to their line. But they'd have to be used on more cars than just the Desoto. Anybody remove their window garnish moulding and find these plugs. Were they used on other Mopar cars of the same years. If so I'd sure like to know about it. Thanks. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 Pictures of these rubber plugs would help ID what else they might fit. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 they were used on all the cars of that era..those plugs you speak of fit onto the garnish molding on either side of the defrost ducts opening for the garnish to seal the air and ensure that the defrosters blow onto the inner surface of the windshield best they can... Dodgeb4ya Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) I think different car lines use different shaped rubber blocks to match the garnish mouldings. Plugs not serviced in parts books. Edited December 14, 2014 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
Bingster Posted December 14, 2014 Author Report Posted December 14, 2014 That makes sense. But maybe the garnish mouldings were designed so that even though the stamping was a different style on the car interior, they made the inner channel so these blocks could be universally used in all their models instead of having to make separate plugs for each moulding. If I designed the cars that's what I would have done if possible. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) glad you got posting pics down.........and with the posted pictures, these are still used in the manner I described in my first reply...these can easily be cut from bulk foam rubber as when in place..they are never seen.... Bingster Posted December 16, 2014 Author Report Posted December 16, 2014 Good idea. I think mine are usable. A little stiff but as you say, nobody will see them if they serve the function. But I might try the foam route anyway. After seeing those European guys' sheet metal work, this plug seems like a walk-in-the-park! Quote
Ulu Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 Here is the plug. Thanks for the help!Plug One (1).JPGPlug One (2).JPG Hmm... I wondered what those things were when I picked them off the floor & threw them away! (Not really. Mine have been missing as long as I've owned the car. Never had defroster hoses, anyhow.) Quote
