I've been studying the installation of an OD. The mechanical is easy, remove the 3-speed tyranny and install the 3-speed with OD which I have.

Now, the OD operates by solenoids and switches which are 6 volt, ergo, all these must then be changed??? I would think so.

So then, 12 volt systems are basically needed for accessories such as modern sound and technical computer power. Air conditioning only needs 12 volt for fans, is that a fair quesion?

Questions: 1. are 12 volt switches and solenoids, etc., easy to find for the R 1O OD? 2. Where is 12 volt required on an Air conditioner system?

Look to '56 and up units..

PP,

There are solenoids and relays available 6V and 12V just look up at sellers providing B&W OD parts, also eBay.

You are right, 6V solenoid cannot be used in 12V system, nor vice versa, but you will find same dimensioned solenoid as e.g. Mopar R10 is using also as 12V unit.

Pekka, thanks. I'm going to put one of my OD's in my suburban but I will get wire for 12 volt and stay with 6. If some day soemone wants 12, he can do it. But I will get two of everything and have them in the car.

TIM; 1O 4, but if I want a work or art, I will find me an orangoutang, put out several bowls of paint and a large canvas, then give him a paint brush!.

PP...again you and art are not in the same space in time or dimension...an orangutan is nothing but a living paint brush...tie a rope about him..dip him in paint then slam him against canvas...I did not know you were that naïve on art and technique...

Use the wire sizing for 6 v system.  12 v will like it fine.  6v on 12 wire sizing will not

Don I stand corrected. Thank you. I have close friends who have elephant memories, they can recall things on the spot. There are a number such members on this forum who have such memories. I do not have that kind of memory, I do quite well with concepts but no with details and details are the keys to the mechanical world.

Thus one of the biggest loses in the garage fire was my Service manual. That was full of notes and 4x5 cards and it was always on the car when I worked.

Have a good week to all.
