soon it will be time to remove the doors for new hinge pins. i've read a few posts here about that, what i need info on are the door stops/limiters. both sides have the tabs on the cowl with a broken off "arm" and no door side parts. i believe the the arm sticks through the door and has a rubber cushion and maybe a cotter or roll pin. does any body have a picture of one removed? and maybe the measurements? thanks

Scott: To really help you we all need to know what year and model car your are needing the door checks. for.

Also if you check on ebay you will also find door checks.

to remove these stop you need to remove the rivet on the A/B post as per door it pertains, then push the stop arm to the inside of the door shell and retrieve it when the door panel is removed...be careful as a great many of these will have the very stop link that is riveted in place on the inner panel of the door (two layers here) and it may well be broken out requiring a weld repair here and use of new rivets or easier, machine screws, to reattach these in position, Ihave done a couple of these repairs..the metal panel will be distorted and the holes cracked...the stop has to be removed in this fashion to install new stop rubber cushions..Fords of the early 40's I think is right made item only super thick..you can actually make two from one and they are available from D. Carpenter...you then have to place a special bolt in stud back on the A/B post when reinstalling the door..get it the wrong size and it will pop like crazy when opening and closing the door...needs be very snug fit...

One of the stops was missing in my 48, so I used one from a 48 Ford pickup that I had laying around- I made a new pin from a broken drill bit, and it worked perfectly! I've found that a surprising number of parts are interchangeable between my grandads truck and my car :-) ............

Looks pretty simple to make.

The door stop function would not be too difficult to make, but the check arm function may add a bit of thinking. Unfortunately I seem to have deleted my check arm photos showing the springy clips that hold the door in the open position.

Edit: found the pics.  This shows one with 1/2 the check portion broken.
