'46 Plym Charlotte Ivory 80001 formula for PPG Concept needed

Recommended Posts

Hello Group

I tried to purchase PPG Concept paint today in 1946 Plymouth "Charlotte Ivory", Code 80001..

The Jobber could only find a mixing formula for the cheaper, OMNI line of paint, so he referred me to the PPG Color Library 800 number.

PPG told me that they have no way to cross one type of PPG paint to another, and that their Formula #3945 was the "closest match".

Well, I would rather paint the car an original color than be limited to what PPG can provide.

Does anyone out there have a Charlotte Ivory P-15 that was scanned to produce a good color match in PPG DCC Concept paint?

Thanks for any advice...

odds are that the paint will not be available what one would call an absolute color match..reasoning...the formula of paint has changed and thus the mixing ratio would not ever be consistent to newer hgher grade of paints....just the lead removal if enough to say different....saying they may match the Omni paint..which by the way...good call not to use, would still be a crap shoot.....PPG is not the only company that will tell you this...DuPont, BASF and the list goes on, if they are honest up front.....their equivalent colors suggestion is probably the best you going to get.  You can find companies that say they are a direct match but they are offering you the modern equivalent and will later say that application, humidity and temp, etc etc will alter the outcome and may cause the slight blush or color change that is the tinge difference from original in order to stall you off and shift the blame for non matching.   Like you, I have called and spoke to them all...Used to be Rogers was about the only that could match and I am not sure where you would find that brand today...

yes...I got that part..just wanted to let you know that exact is not going to happen most likely....you may want to drop a note to BobT of this forum..not sure but think his convertible was ivory and it was just painted....I would recommend that you ping the POC and the AACA folks..they may have a recent experience there..

Bobs car was and is after the repaint a ford color I believe called spring time yellow.

thanks Ed...was not sure of all that....not many times is the Charlotte Ivory mentioned here...but for some reason associated it with his name and his convertible...could well have been his original color...also it has been mentioned in passing as a trim color for pin striping wheels..

Bobs color does mimic it but I think his has a little more yellow to it.

Chris (Victoredaye on here) has a Charlotte Ivory car, here in the UK.

Awesome. I do love that color. I hope Ward is successful so I can paint my car that color someday too. Although honestly one of the PPG close offsets would probably work just fine for me.
