Anyone have any history with an MSD dizzy???  OR a dizzy that squeals very loudly. Sounds just like a belt slipping but still makes the noise when ALL belts are off.  It is a small block chebby if that helps

Okay, since all the replies are clogging the in button I may ask this question.??

I just want to drive this car.  How hard is it to convert back over to regular HEI ignition, distributor and coil?  from this terrible MSD mechanical advance dizzy and firewall red 6 A box.  OR can I put a diffeent dizzy with same old red box which obviously contains the coil,,,,,then I could go back toMSD if it ever gets fixed??

I really wonder how much performance I would lose by dumping the MSD system and going regular HEI.  I am guessing it should be around 350 to 400 hp on this sbc 350 cube engine.

Any other performance systems I should look at??

I know nothing about an MSD specifically but I have to imagine there is a bearing/bushing where the shaft spins. Thats the first place I would check.

I have had great luck with an HEI.  I actually ended up removing the MSD box from one of my cars because it made for a hard start.  As for the HEI going into the car - all it takes is a heavy power wire (12 or 10 ga) and the rest of the unit is pretty self contained.  You can upgrade the module with an aftermarket one if you really think the module is an issue, but I thought they were good to about 4500 rpm.

If that's going into your Camaro, there may be clearance issues at the firewall with an HEI unit. I don't recall there being a lot of room back there with the old point setup which I think is what they came with.  I don't think HEI showed up until later.
