On Friday , had truck over at repair shop for DMV inspection, all passed with 'flying colors", except rear drums and rear center brake hose. The rums are 1989 10 inch dodge, so easy and cheap to buy, had them in 20 minutes, same with the brake hose. Front drums were deemed good, 1 was slightly oversize, inspector knew it was not an easy item to attain, he told me to find one when I can.

All else passed even my exhaust job I did over a year ago, cracked exhaust manifold was over looked...

Congrats.  That sounds like a thorough inspection that they do on your side of the border.  Never seen anyone check rear drums here.

In this province all Vehicle Inspections include many safety/mechanical items. Brake drums condtion and measurement is a big one as is any leaks in the system, hoses lines, shoe thickness pad thickness, rotors etc.

All exhaust, suspension, steering, mirrors, lighting, speedometer, glass, body integity, and the list goes on.

You cannot register a vehicle here, without said safety certificate.

It's Good to know that you truck passes with flying colours. Unfortunately the guys here just pay the road worthy people enough money to pass there cars without testing it. Then they wonder why there are so many accidents on the road.

I would say no to Xraying welds, but if it looks poorly welded, it would fail.

Possibly bigger stuff 1 ton trucks and over it is far more intensive.

To be honest "rat rods" aren't that popular or plentiful, lot of Streetrods though, which would fall into the front clipped category. So many up here want everything looking like frame off restos, whether they can afford it or not...

That kinda stuff is done here too, but any licensed mechanic/inspector has to put his ID number on record and all is forwarded to DMV when you register said vehicles....
