something in nature that was quite funny..there was a dead raccoon up against a fence along side the road as I was driving to town. On the other side of the fence was a buzzard, poor guy had landed on the wrong side of the fence..reminded me of Maxwell Smart...missed it by this much...

Or to lure the raccoon to it's death. Chickens hate raccoons.

how in the name of sam can a chicken hate a raccoon...the average chicken will never see a raccoon in its lifetime....if a hatchery to pot chicken...he will never know anything but other chicken, food trough and maybe the very guy putting his crate on the trick for trip to processor..this just struck me as funny he should know what a raccoon would be..by knowing it is different from him..maybe...hate..probably not..leary of the animal...definitely

Just ask any chicken. Last one I talked to told me stories of his GGG grandma who was eaten by a raccoon instead of a human. I am glad chickens don't hate humans.

We lost about a half dozen chickens to raccoons this last fall...kind of the great chicken massacre. I'm pretty sure the remaining chickens hate raccoons...!!! But of course we don't have average chickens. I think they hate Coyote too, as he nabbed three or four last summer. Not an easy life for chickens that know more than the trough and the crate! :) If you figure in the losses due to coyotes and raccoons this last year, our eggs probably cost twice as much as the store bought ones from chickens that don't hate.

Back in the day of growing up on the farm cant say we ever lost a chick to racoons.  But badgers, coyote skunks weasels and lots of other critters sure got there fair share. Badgers were the worst,,,killed all they could and half buried them for later meals.  AND what they didnt kill piled up and smothered any way

My daughter who lives a few hours away in Iwegia lost ALL there laying chickens to coons,,,even in a well built caged house and outside yard.  Those pesky critters can rip thru most anything when they want to.  have heard they can rip right thru wood walls if they have to.

The little buggers here dug under the fence....and the wife was getting lazy and not locking up the chicken house at night. Do'H!! But they haven't been back since, (that I know of) so before we get the next batch of chickens in we will raccoon proof the fence. Our chicken house is very over-built, so I think it would take a while for them to go through a wall, though I don't doubt that they could given enough time. However, we are keeping a much better watch now, and Mister .22 Hornet is itching to get some revenge on the raccoons. !!!
