Is it possible to obtain a vehicle history report for cars as old as ours? I have been unable to find info on cars that are pre-VIN era. I would like to see how many owners my car has had, accidents (if obtainable), where it has been registered, or any other possible info I can find. If it's not an obtainable report, any good tips on finding out some of this information?

Also is there any registry to see how many of these old cars are left on the road. I know some rare breeds have them, but what about the more common classics?

Chris you can contact the Chrysler Historical section and the cost is about $45 and they will provide you with the basic history and build sheet on your car.

I did this for my 39 Desoto and I got the original build sheet on the car.

A build sheet will not give you any of the above information you are looking for. It will only give you information on the build of your car. Sorry to say the prior owners, accidents, etc information is most likely unobtainable.

Perhaps I am wrong but last I knew there was a big fire at ChryCo many years aho that destroyed decades worth of information. From what I understand you can still obtain a build sheet for your vehicle, but as far as previous owners etc you will have to go through the state(s) in which the vehicle was registered/titled...but good luck getting them to release such info

I believe the fire was in Canada and destroyed the records for the Canada built cars. The only info along these lines you will get from Chrysler is the original dealership it was sent to. I was able to contact the historical society for the area and got a couple pictures of the dealership that sold my 48 new.
