ol'skool Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I am going to be ordering the brackets for the disc brake conversion from Rusty Hope. He really doesn't clarify what parts are needed. I need more specifics, can someone tell me what part numbers are or what car to use to order the parts. I understand the calipers, brake pads, hoses are standard GM from an s-10 or similar. That I got finally. What I need to know is the rotors, bearing and seals. Saying, Mopar rotors isn't enough. What car do I use rotors from and bearings/seals and anything else. Thanks! Quote
_shel_ny Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) You should be asking Charlie. Edited October 17, 2013 by shel_bizzy_48 Quote
casper50 Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I believe he sends you a list of parts needed with numbers. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Charlie's kits comes complete with a full list of all hardware needed and the part number as used by big box store. His instructions are also very detailed and last but far from least, customer satisfaction and service after the sale. This service is often lacking from the larger companies after the check is cashed. I have only heard of one bad experience with Charlie's kit (service) and to that end I have to say customer may not have been up to the actual task of the install doing all his own work of drilling and tapping the uprights. 1 Quote
ol'skool Posted October 17, 2013 Author Report Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks for the replies. I ordered the kit and shock relocating brackets. I wanted to know specifics. It's hard to figure an estimate for a customer when you don't know what parts are needed. I know his kit has instructions and parts are listed in that, however, I would have liked to known the parts before I ordered the kit to figure out prices. Oh well, put the cart in front of the horse on this one. Quote
wayfarer Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 As said, you should have talked with Charlie. He may have been able to send the paper work out ahead of the box. Quote

ol'skool Posted October 17, 2013 Author Report Posted October 17, 2013 I asked but he wouldn't tell me any part numbers, just kept saying it's in the instructions and on his website. Oh, well, that's fine, I ordered the brackets from him. Thanks for the part numbers, now I know what I need to get ordered up. Also, what master cylinder is recommended for this. I would like to keep it under the floor. Thanks! Quote
james curl Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Charlie says in his instructions that he strongly recommends installing a dual reservoir master cylinder, metering block, and residual valves designed for disc/drum systems. MP brakes and others sell complete kits for this type braking system. 1 Quote
littlemo Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 A search of this forum on disc brake conversion might lead you to several other members who have gone this route before you. Reading these posts might give you an insight as to what your going to face in doing this swap. Good luck, Cass, alias littlemo... Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 This is directloy from Charleys web page The necessary parts can be purchased for as little as $200 to as much as $300 depending on your location and the parts source you choose. Quote
50desotocoupe Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I bought the front and rear kits from another supplier. The kit uses monte carlo calipers front and rear (different years), 76 Dodge Dart front rotors and 2001 Cherokee rear rotors. By the time I bought the parts from Napa (calipers, rotors, brake lines--rubber and steel, bearings, etc) it was about $450.00. I don't think too bad considering that was for 2 axles. Quote
ol'skool Posted October 17, 2013 Author Report Posted October 17, 2013 Charlie emailed me the instructions and misc so I know what I need and will get parts ordered. Thanks everyone. Quote
Bta 120 Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Did the front conversion on a 47 P 15 using scarebird set up. Worked well no drilling or tapping threads . All hardware supplied in kit $165 shipped with parts list Lincoln rotors celebrity calipers fits on stock P 15 hub Quote

I bought Charlie's kit and found him more than willing to put up with my stupid questions. He was always available. Scarebird is in my home state and I contacted them several times but I did not get the feeling they were interested in customer service. Could never seem to be sure about their own kit. Just my 2 cents. Quote
ol'skool Posted October 19, 2013 Author Report Posted October 19, 2013 Should be receiving rusty hopes parts early next week. Ordered all the parts from napa and amazon to do the conversion. I will post a detailed write up about parts and install to help others. 1 Quote
