I've seen it done on an S10 chassis. Not an easy task by any means but if you can fabricate floor pans and mounts and you're a decent welder it's doable. Probably a Ranger would work, too. The one I saw looked good when it was done.

I saw one over on the HAMB with a small block Chevy; he used the old ram horn style exhaust manifolds and offset the engine slightly toward the passenger side to clear the steering box. Another alternative is to change the steering box out and adapt a Cavalier rack and pinion. That opens up a decent amount of room to work with. I did that on my 48 and put in a LS 5.3.

Gotcha. That sounds a little out of my range of skill. Any pointers

on at least dropping a new engine (preferrably a 350) and tranny in?

Was a chevy body too expensive?

You'll need fabrication skills for transplanting  any engine/drivetrain components that weren't put there from the factory or pockets deep enough to pay someone who does.  SB Chevies are usually the easiest, simply because there's so much stuff out there for them and they've been put in everything.  So much so, they're not very interesting to look at. They're so boring to me , if I were customizing a Chevy I wouldn't put one in it, opting instead for maybe a big Caddy  or Pontiac, but it's your choice and I understand the necessity of using what you have sometimes.  Just don't raise the hood around a true Mopar guy.
