I just installed my new gasket from Steele.  I haven't actually tested it for leakage, but it looks great.  It covers all of the pinch-weld areas and fits better.  Now to install the trim and wash the truck...

A few years ago a few of us from the SF Bay Area (no rain from spring through fall) drove up to Portland (rain all year) for a show. I had always washed my car the old fashioned way with a hose and lots of water so I had found and fixed my cowl vent and windshield leaks. Another couple on the trip had always cleaned their car with just a damp micro fiber cloth. First rain storm on the way up and they found they had a leaky cowl vent and windshield. We called them "wet feet" for the rest of the trip. :)

Hey Bud, my rubbers have arrived from Steele and I am about to install the new glass / rubbers.

Any tips you can give me would be welcome :)

I am assuming the rubber / glass is installed from the inside out (looking at the rubber seems that way)

How much does it cost ?  Unfortunately mine is the low-profile version which does show the dimple welds and what's worse I have to use nylon washers about 3/16" of an inch thk.  in order to get the tips of the steel center bar to clear the paint on my cab. Good news is it doesn't leak bad news it looks like crap. I also want to install new glass so good excuse to purchase new Steele rubber.

If it's not too much trouble Jim,  I'd like to see pics of the lower corner, and the top & bottom of the steel center divider after it's back together.

Thanks,

Hank

If you are doing the corner windows then I recommend you use plenty of masking tape to hold the gasket in place on the glass. Soap them up good too...... and have a helper. One man in the cab and the other outside. Lever them into the corner and work the string from the edge closest to the door piller back towards the center window. Once they are in the tape is easy to remove. It is the only way to go when doing these.

Well, I got it finished and washed and - it leaks!  I'm going to take it to a windshield shop and have them work their magic.  When I used the last version of Steele's gasket I had to build up the center divider with extra rubber and use longer screws to avoid a gap between the divider and the gasket.  Didn't have to this time.  The center divider just touches the metal on the cab.  I can live with it...

Jim;

I just put in new Steele Rubber gaskets all around. They recommended ..... and I bought some clear 3M sealer to use to prevent leaks. I used it and it was crap. I ended up spending quite a bit of time peeling it off. If I was patient it would have fell off on it's own.

I found a Permatex product that is a special flowable silicon made specifically for this application. Much easier to apply and seems to have bonded nicely. I have not done a leak test yet but will do so soon and report back.

 Now I don't feel so alone. I would like to install the new Steele one with new glass.

Did you get the one-piece or did you opt for the two-piece gasket?

i'm still happy with the one-piece i purchased from roberts several years ago. it went in fine, and with the permatex black, it doesn't leak. costs a lot less, too. the gaskets available now are probably china crap, but the one i got was us-sourced. i don't know how the newer ones look/work, nor what the quality of them would be.

truck sits out in the driveway, so it gets wet. and i drive it in any weather. neither the windshield nor the cowl vent leak. i'm happy with that.

on FEF, I gently removed a TICH of metal on the top to keep it from rubbing on the cab.

At the corners, although I suspect the water is getting in at the top and running down.
