Looking for a driver.......somewhat off topic.....

Well, it's a long shot, but I'm looking for a running driver, or something very close to roadworthy. As you all know, a couple of weeks ago my daily driver was totaled by a large SUV and I'm on foot for now. I'd really like to find a 49-50, or 54 Dodge 1/2 ton short wheelbase driver. I would also consider a later model, 68-86 1/2 ton slant/6 automatic truck. And would consider a 49-50 Plymouth coupe, business or club. I've got a reasonable budget, but I can't afford a show truck/car or anything gold plated. I've searched around on the net, ebay, and auto trader. It's time to call in the troops, namely you guys, to find that perfect deal. Any help greatly appreciated. Charlie.

I was chasing that 50 Business Coupe that was posted on the board for awhile, never could make good contact with the guy. I have your exhaus manifold set up in the jig and will get the brazing done this week, or by the weekend. It looks really nice.

Might be a good idea to share how far away distance wise you are willing to consider potentials if something is spotted? ... I.e., Alaska or California. seen some interesting things in the central states lately.

Well, the perfect deal would be here in Florida, cheap and exactly what I'm looking for. I would consider most anyplace for the right deal, but closer to Florida the better I guess. I am looking at a Coronet wagon in California though, but it's a stretch for me, too new.

Charlie,

You're passing up a good deal on Tony's El Camino. However, if you must have a Plymouth and an older one at that, there is a 51 or 52 Plymouth Business coupe for sale in New Jersey. I guess it has been in a museum and is more or less a done car for $8500 (all original). That's a little closer to Florida. It is listed in Old Cars Weekly. Sorry don't have a copy of the latest issue. I only know about it because someone else mentioned it to me.

Charlie,

Check with Normspeed. He's the one who had a friend with either a 53 or 54 Plymouth that was for sale down in Florida recently. Maybe it's still available. Forgot all about that one until just now.

Not quite the years Olddaddy is looking for but definitely a strong driver. It's probably still in the for sale listings on the forum. I have some car friends in Fla, I'll put out the word and see what they know of.

I suspect this one here might go for reasonable but it's a long ways from OldDaddy, near my place. Older fella, likes fixing them up more than he does driving them.

This '52 Cambridge with modern drivetrain was on eBay a while back. Looks interesting and the opening bid was reasonable, but located in NYS. Seller even states that the car can drive to Florida!

you dont find an old mopar for a driver,,,I would think twice about one of those slightly older than new vw models with the diesel motor in them that get 40-60mpg. They run forever!! Fuel doesnt look like or act like it is going to get much cheaper for very long anyway,,,milage is KING!!!! For what you save on daily fuel, can fund a NICE old car for a sunny day ride!! Drive the diesel in the rain and crappy weather with dumb idiot drivers , doing there makeup during rush hour, around you!!
