First post.  I bought this 49 Panel. It is stock except front seat and missing a few front bars..  I plan on installing a slant six, t flight and air for sure.

Any pilot houses with a slant six out there ?

I wasn't able to up load 1 pic

I googled the 48 panel and looked at the images. Cool trucks, lots of very nice ideas. BUT why take out the L6?  It will do 90 % of what the other engines will do and every one will not expect the  original and will like the L 6. I always get compliments on my L6! Like "Wow, you kept the flat head!". JHPO

First welcome to the site!   If your doing an engine conversion I think you are going to find the /6, while a great engine, is more problematic than a V8 conversion. And I second pf's comment, keep the flathead.  If you decide to move forward please keep the community updated!

I tried what was in post #2. I'll get my son to help me. I have a photobucket account but couldn't figure it out.

Questions anyhow.

1.My original engine is in excellent condition but the xmission pops out of 2nd gear when a load is put on it. Is there a fix ?

2. My brakes are NO GOOD. What's a good fix ? I thought about a late model rear end and disks on the front. Master cyl ?

Well for 2nd gear you should be able to hold it in place, till you shift to 3rd.

you can install a later rear axle from a jeep, & there are a couple disk brake swaps out there. Do some searching here as there are SEVERAL threads about this.

Infact I may have kept my original frame had I known this earlier! But I am happy with what I am doing doing, as a whole. :D

Front disc conversion can be bought from Rustyhope.com

Rear axle swap is most commonly done with a Jeep Cherokee rear end (not grand cherokee).  Mine is from a 96.  3.55 rear gears and better drum brakes. The stock wheels will bolt right up.  Do a search and a lot of posts will come up.

You can boost the power of the flathead a little bit by having the head shaved to boost compression.  Do a search to get the amount you can have taken off.

Width is close enough. New spring perches and bolt it in. The problem with B1 1/2 tons is the universal joints, some are normal, some are ball and trunnion. B&T work well if kept lubed, but fitting a modern rear in a truck that shipped with them gets expensive, you'll need a custom driveshaft.

3.90 could be a truck or car center section. B1 shouldn't have been geared that high originally, but, anything is possible with older Dodge trucks. The factory would build almost anything, within reason. And high gearing would likely have been "within reason"...
