White Spyder Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) I am looking at replacing the wiring in my Chrysler and need some input on the harnesses from Rhoad Islind wire. What was your experience, what harness did you buy and was it easy and worth the money? I am looking at the dash and engine set and the engine to bucket set. Total price is 700+ for both. Is that what I need to do the instruments and under hood resto? Edited April 16, 2013 by White Spyder Quote
JohnS48plm Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 I put a Rhode Island harness in a 33 Plymouth coupe and in both of my 48 Plymouths. The terminals were well marked , all of the terminals were correct, and they were easy to install. I would use them again although they were a little pricy. Last year I helped a friend put a harness in a 38 Chrysler. It was from another harness company. The terminals weren't marked, the wiring diagram was not correct and it was very difficult to install but he did save money. I'll stick with Rhode Island.JohnS Quote
austinsailor Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 That is good to know. I'm in the process of taking out the old wiring from my 53 Plymouth so I can send it to them to duplicate. Gene Quote
fourleaf Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 I spoke with them on several occasions about wiring harness for my 48 p-15 and they were extremely helpful. They weren't trying to sell me anything and they explained in detail how they build the wiring in their onsite factory to look just like the factory wiring in your car or truck. I would use them if i had the money! good luck Quote
martybose Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 I used them a decade ago, and they were very helpful. I speced a number of changes, like deleting wires for the voltage regulator since I use a 1-wire alternator, provisions for headlight relays and turn signals. larger gauge wires for the headlights, and everything came out perfect. desoto1939 Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Recommend RHI. When they first produced the wire harness for the 39 Desoto/Dodge and Chrysler they had them wrapped in cloth tape. I showed them a factory section of my 39 Desoto wires that were in a loom that had blu tracers. They then made the modifications to their product. They are always looking to improve their product and provide you with quality. I have done business with them. Great people. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
Don Jordan Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 I've done 1 1/2 cars and I'm waiting for the second half to come. I recommend RIW they are easy to work with and not only answer questions but when I did my 48 I was confused (not unusual) and I sent them the wires and they duplicated them. I just like the look of the cloth wiring. There are those that suggest doing it yourself but it just doesn't have the same look. Just my opinion. Quote
